Preferred Method (with Scan Tool)
- NOTE: Do not adjust any controls on the HVAC control module while it is performing self-calibration. Interruption could cause the HVAC system to malfunction. Clear all DTCs.
- Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.
- Install the HVAC actuator.
- Connect all previously disconnected components.
- Start the vehicle.
- With the scan tool, initiate the HVAC Actuators re-calibration feature of the Remote Heater and Air Conditioning Control Module Special Functions menu.
- Verify that no DTCs have set as current DTCs.
Alternate Method (without Scan Tool)
- NOTE: Do not adjust any controls on the HVAC control module while it is performing self-calibration. Interruption could cause the HVAC system to malfunction. Clear all DTCs.
- Place the ignition switch to the OFF position.
- Install the HVAC actuator.
- Connect all previously disconnected components.
- Remove the HVAC control module fuse for a minimum of 10 s.
- Install the HVAC control module fuse.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait 40 s for the HVAC control module to self-calibrate.
- Verify that no DTCs have set as current DTCs.

The HVAC control module detects the sensor signal out of range. The signal voltage is less than 0.1 V or greater than 4.9 V for more than 50 minutes.
B0183 02
The 5 V identification pulse is not received.
B0183 05
The input signal is static and greater than 4.8 V.
B1405 02
Clocked supply for multi zone sensor is shorted to ground.
B1405 05
Clocked supply for multi zone sensor is shorted to voltage or open.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
- The system will use the last valid values as default.
- If no value is read at the time of fault, the HVAC Control Module uses 0 W/m 2 as intensity, 45° for elevation and -75° for azimuth.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC

Circuit/System Testing
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate temperature sensor.
- Test for less than 5 ohms between the temperature sensor ground circuit terminal B and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
- Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 V between the signal circuit terminal A and ground.
- If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K33 HVAC Control Module.
- If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K33 HVAC Control Module.
- If all circuits test normal, replace the temperature sensor and verify the DTC does not reset.
- If the DTC resets, replace the K33 HVAC Control Module.

CONTROL MODULE REFERENCES for scan tool information
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the K8 Blower Motor Control Module.
- Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ and ground circuit terminal 5 X2.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ground circuit for an open circuit/high resistance.
- Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 6 X2 at the K8 Blower Motor Control Module harness connector and ground.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the K33 HVAC Control Module.
- Ignition ON, test for less than 0.3 V between the control circuit terminal 3 X2 at the K8 Blower Motor Control Module harness connector and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage.
- Ignition OFF, test for infinite resistance between the control circuit terminal 3 X2 at the K8 Blower Motor Control Module harness connector and ground.
- If less than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to ground.
- Test for less than 5 ohms between the K33 HVAC Control Module control circuit terminal 15 X2 and control circuit terminal 3 X2 at the K8 Blower Motor Control Module harness connector.
- If greater than the specified value, test the control circuit for an open/high resistance.
- If all circuits test normal, replace the K8 Blower Motor Control Module and verify the DTC does not reset.
- If the DTC resets, replace the K33 HVAC Control Module.

- If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
- Test for less than 0.3 V between the control circuit terminal 1 X1 at the K8A Blower Motor Control Module - Auxiliary harness connector and ground.
- If greater than the specified value, test the control circuit for a short to voltage.
- Ignition OFF, test for infinite resistance between the control circuit terminal 1 X1 at the K8A Blower Motor Control Module - Auxiliary harness connector and ground.
- If less than the specified value, test the control circuit for a short to ground.
- Test for less than 5 ohms between the K33 HVAC Control Module control circuit terminal 16 X2 and control circuit terminal 1 X1 at the K8A Blower Motor Control Module - Auxiliary harness connector.
- If greater than the specified value, test the control circuit for an open/high resistance.
- If all circuits test normal, replace the K8A Blower Motor Control Module - Auxiliary and verify the DTC does not reset.
- If the DTC resets, replace the K33 HVAC Control Module.

Visual/Physical Inspection
- Inspect for aftermarket devices which may affect the operation of the HVAC System. Refer to «CHECKING AFTERMARKET ACCESSORIES»(ref-653659-S25218301212014090100000) .
- Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.
- Verify the A/C compressor turns freely and is not seized.
- Verify that the customer is using the correct key to enable personalization and is not inadvertently activating auxiliary HVAC controls.
- The A/C compressor will not operate in cold outside air temperatures.
- The following conditions may cause window fogging: Wet carpet or mats High humidity Interior water leak Blocked A/C evaporator drain tube Maximum passenger capacity Blocked body pressure relief valves
- Inspect the air distribution system for causes of reduced air flow: Obstructed or dirty passenger compartment air filter, if equipped Blocked or damaged air inlet or outlet vents

Diagnostic Aids
The following conditions must be met in order for the HVAC control module to turn on the A/C compressor
- Battery voltage is between 9-18 V.
- Engine coolant temperature is less than 124°C (255°F).
- Engine speed is greater than 600 rpm.
- Engine speed is less than 5 500 rpm.
- A/C high side pressure is between 269-2, 929 kPa (39-425 psi).
- Throttle position is less than 100%.
- Evaporator temperature is greater than 3°C (38°F).
- ECM does not detect immoderate torque load.
- ECM does not detect insufficient idle quality.
- The ambient temperature is above 1°C (34°F).

- Test for less than 5 ohms between the Q2 A/C Compressor Clutch ground circuit terminal A and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
- Connect the harness connector at the Q2 A/C Compressor Clutch.
- Ignition ON, connect a 10 A fused jumper wire between the B+ circuit terminal 30 and the control circuit terminal 87. Verify the Q2 A/C Compressor Clutch is activated.
- If the Q2 A/C Compressor Clutch does not activate, test the control circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit test normal, replace the Q2 A/C Compressor Clutch.
- Connect a test lamp between the ignition circuit terminal 86 and the control circuit terminal 85.
- Command the engine control module (ECM) A/C Compressor Clutch Relay output function ON and OFF with the scan tool. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
- If the test lamp always illuminates or always does not illuminate, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
- If all circuits test normal, replace the KR29 A/C Compressor Clutch Relay.

- Turn the blower motor OFF. Verify the test lamp does not illuminate.

- Turn the blower motor stepwise from low speed to high speed. The test lamp intensity should increase.

- Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the K8A Blower Motor Control Module - Auxiliary ground circuit terminal 4 X1 and B+.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ground circuit for an open circuit/high resistance.
- Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the K8A Blower Motor Control Module - Auxiliary B+ circuit terminal 2 X1 and ground.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the M8B Blower Motor - Auxiliary and connect the X1 harness connector at the K8A Blower Motor Control Module - Auxiliary.
- Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the M8B Blower Motor - Auxiliary B+ circuit terminal B and ground.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K8A Blower Motor Control Module - Auxiliary.
- Connect a test lamp between the M8B Blower Motor - Auxiliary B+ circuit terminal B and the M8B Blower Motor - Auxiliary control circuit terminal A.
- Turn the blower motor OFF. Verify the test lamp does not illuminate.
- If the test lamp illuminates, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K8A Blower Motor Control Module - Auxiliary and verify that the test lamp does not always illuminate. If the test lamp always illuminates, replace the K33 HVAC Control Module.
- Turn the blower motor stepwise from low speed then to high speed. The test lamp intensity should increase.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K8A Blower Motor Control Module - Auxiliary and verify that the test lamp illuminates. If the test lamp does not illuminate, replace the K33 HVAC Control Module.
- If the test lamp intensity does not vary, replace the K8A Blower Motor Control Module - Auxiliary and verify that the intensity varies. If the test lamp intensity does not vary, replace the K33 HVAC Control Module.
- If all circuits test normal, replace the M8B Blower Motor - Auxiliary.
