Identifying Intake System, Normally Aspirated Engine (B204i) Components. Scheme 30
- Air intake pipe
- Air cleaner consisting of
- Cover
- Air cleaner filter element
- Air collector casing
- Mass air flow sensor
- Resonator
- Throttle valve
Short description
The intake system consists of an air cleaner, mass air flow sensor, rubber elbow and resonator. The intake system is connected to the throttle body.
The volume of air used by the engine passes through the intake system where a filter cleans the air by removing dust particles from it. The air cleaner (air collector casing) also acts as an intake air silencer.
The mass air flow sensor provides the engine management system's control module with continuous information on the mass flow of air consumed by the engine. Signals from the mass air flow sensor are processed by the control module which monitors the engine's fuel mixture requirements.
For further information on the mass air flow sensor, see TRIONIC ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM .
Identifying Intake System, Turbo Engine (B204E) Components. Scheme 31
- Air intake pipe
- Air cleaner consisting of
- Cover
- Air cleaner filter element
- Air collector casing
- Intake pipe, turbocharger
- Pipe connection to turbocharger and charge air cooler
- Bypass line
- Charge air bypass valve
- Temperature sensor
- Throttle valve
The intake system consists of an air cleaner, connecting pipes and hoses, the turbocharger and charge air cooler. The intake system is connected to the throttle body.
The air consumed by the engine passes through the intake system where a filter cleans the air by removing dust particles from it. The air cleaner also acts as an intake air silencer.
The turbo engine has a pressure sensor instead of a mass air flow sensor.
For further information on the turbocharger and charge air cooler, see TURBOCHARGER SYSTEM, PETROL for more information .
Identifying Intake System, Turbo Engine (B235R, B205L/R) Components. Scheme 32
- Resonator
- Air cleaner consisting of
- Cover
- Air cleaner filter element
- Air collector casing
- Mass air flow sensor
- Intake pipe, turbocharger
- Pipe connection to turbocharger and charge air cooler
- Bypass line
- Charge air bypass valve
- Temperature sensor
- Throttle valve
The intake system consists of a resonator, air cleaner, connecting pipes and hoses, the turbocharger and charge air cooler. The intake system is connected to the throttle body.
The air mass used by the engine passes through the induction system where a filter removes dust particles from the air. The B235R and B205L/R engines are fitted with an extra acoustic baffle, the resonator. The resonator, as well as the air cleaner, act as an induction sound damper.
The B235R and B205L/R turbo engines have both temperature sensor and mass air flow sensor.
For further information on the turbocharger and charge air cooler, see TURBOCHARGER SYSTEM, PETROL for more information .
Identifying Air Cleaner Components. Scheme 33
- Cover
- Air cleaner filter element
- Air collector casing
- Air intake pipe
- Connecting piece for mass air flow sensor (not turbo)
The air cleaner is located on the right-hand side of the engine bay.
The air cleaner consists of a rectangular container (air collector casing) in which an air filter is housed. A cover is clamped in place on the container by means of overcentre catches. The cover has a connecting piece for the mass air flow sensor (not on the turbo engine) which is held in place by hose clips.
The intake air is drawn in through a straight forward-facing air intake pipe.
Identifying Air Cleaner (B235R, B205L/R) Components. Scheme 34
- Cover
- Air cleaner filter element
- Air collector casing
- Air intake pipe
- Connecting piece for mass air flow sensor
The air cleaner is located on the right-hand side of the engine bay.
The air cleaner consists of a rectangular container (air collector casing) in which an air filter is housed. A cover is clamped in place on the container by means of overcentre catches. The cover has a connecting piece for the mass air flow sensor which is held in place between the air collector casing and the turbocharger intake pipe.
The intake air is drawn in through a resonator, located in front of the RH front wheel.
