Piston with Con -rod, Remove and Install
Remove engine.
See operation "Engine with Transmission, Remove and Install". Remove cylinder head and oil pan.
See operation "Engine, Repair using Short Block".
Turn con - rod journal to BDC or TDC.
Mark con - rod bearing cap and remove.
Press piston with con - rod out upwards.
Clean con - rod bearing and con - rod journal.

Attach piston ring tensioner.
| Install piston/con -rod assembly using a hammer handle, until con - rod bearing shell sits on con - rod journal of crankshaft. | |||

Important:
Note installation position.
Applies to C 30 SE and C 30 SEJ engines:
Arrow on piston head points to timing case;
runner on con - rod (point "A") to transmission.
Applies to C 30 XEI engine:
Arrow on piston head and runner on con - rod (point "A") point to timing case.

Check con - rod bearing play.
See corresponding operation.
Lubricate con - rod bearing adequately with engine oil and install bearing cover (according to markings).
Note installation position, see pos. B.
Torque:
Con - rod bearing cover to con - rod (C 30 SE, C 30 SEJ) - 45 Nm/33 lbf. ft.
Con - rod bearing cover to con - rod (C 30 XEI) - 55 Nm/41 lbf. ft.
Install cylinder head and oil pan.
Install engine.
