How to Replace the Piston Rings Opel Combo C

Remove

  1. 1. Remove all pistons with con-rods - see operation "Remove and install all pistons with con-rods".
  2. 2. Remove piston rings • Remove piston rings with piston ring pliers (1)
  3. 3. Clean grooves in rings

Note. Clean piston ring grooves for rectangular compression ring (2), tapered compression ring (3) and oil scraper ring (4) using the ground side of an old piston ring.

  1. 4. Check gap • Insert piston rings into cylinder • Check gap using feeler gauge

Note. Permitted piston ring gaps - see "Technical Data"

Install

  1. 5. Fit piston rings

Note. Use piston ring pliers to insert piston rings into ring groove with "TOP" marking facing up

  1. 6. Adjust piston rings • Piston rings (I), rectangular compression ring (1) and tapered compression ring (2) are offset by 180° • Oil scraper rings (3) (II) are offset 25 - 50 mm to left and right of gap in intermediate ring
  2. 7. Check piston ring vertical play • Check in ring groove using feeler gauge
  1. 8. Piston Rings, Replace • 3 pistons
  2. 9. Install all pistons with con-rods
