Infotainment Opel Astra H

Communication / Navigation 17 illustrations ~668 words

All Infotainment components communicate via the MS CAN bus. The main unit of the Infotainment system is always a radio (EHU - Entertainment Head Unit), which, depending on the equipment fitted, may also contain navigation and telephone functions. Additional components may also include, depending on the equipment fitted, the Twin Audio System, DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting), various displays (TID, BID, GID, CID), aerials and a telephone kit for mobile phones.

Additional Components

DAB

The DAB (Digital Audio Broadcast) auxiliary module is installed in the passenger compartment behind the glove compartment for some radios. DAB is a receiver module for terrestrial (i.e. via normal aerials) digital radio. This will be the standard in Germany in a few years' time. DAB receives its data via the DAB aerial incorporated into the normal aerial. The module is operated via the radio (EHU).

Twin Audio system

The Twin Audio System enables the rear passengers to listen, via headphones, to a different music source from that being played through the loudspeakers (example, radio programme being broadcast via the speakers, CD via the Twin Audio System). The Twin Audio control panel for operating the system and connecting the headphones is located in the centre console extension. If the Twin Audio System is switched on, the rear speakers are automatically switched off. The Twin Audio System can only be combined with certain radio models as the equipment must be capable of reproducing two separate signal sources.

Displays

In addition to the functions listed below, all displays contain a gateway (transfer) function for bus systems. The displays are connected to both the LS and the MS bus systems and transfer data between the LS and MS bus.

TID (Triple Info Display)

Monochrome display, 1 line of text

The following is displayed: Time, date, outside temperature with ice warning, various radio displays (if an ECC is installed in the vehicle, the GID is used instead of the TID)

BID (Board Info Display)

GID (Graphic Info Display)
