BASIC INSPECTION [SJ6A-EL]

STEPINSPECTIONACTION
1Measure the battery voltage. Is the battery voltage 10.0-14.0 V?YesGo to the next step.

3Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature. Retrieve DTC using the M-MDS. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION [SJ6A-EL] ) Are any DTCs present?YesRecord the Freeze Frame Data and perform the appropriate DTC troubleshooting procedures. (See DTC TABLE [SJ6A-EL] )

1When the vehicle is stopped on a flat, level road and the engine off, does the vehicle move when pushed (in D, M ranges or N, R positions with the brake pedal released)?YesGo to the next step.
NoInspect for the parking mechanism.
2Start the engine. Does the vehicle move when selector lever in between N position and D range?YesInspect the selector Sever. (See SELECTOR LEVER INSPECTION )
NoGo to the next step.
3Stop the engine. Inspect the following solenoid: (See SOLENOID VALVE INSPECTION [SJ6A-EL] ) Shift solenoid C Shift solenoid D Shift solenoid E Shift solenoid F Line pressure control solenoid Are these normal?YesOverhaul the transmission and repair or replace any malfunctioning parts (clutch slippage, worn). 3Remove the torque converter. (See TORQUE CONVERTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SJ6A-EL] ) Inspect the torque converter. Is the torque converter normal?YesInspect the ATF condition. If a large amount of metal specks are found, overhaul the transmission and repair or replace any malfunctioning parts. NoInspect the up switch. (See SELECTOR LEVER COMPONENT INSPECTION ) If the up switch has a malfunction: Replace the selector lever component. (See SELECTOR LEVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ) If the up switch is normal: Inspect for continuity between selector lever component terminal D and TCM terminal 2J. Repair or replace the suspected wiring harness.
2Inspect the UP SW PID value using the M-MDS when the steering shift switch "UP" is pulled. (See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION [SJ6A-EL] ) Is the UP SW PID value normal?YesInspect the instrument cluster. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INSPECTION ) Replace the instrument cluster, if necessary. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
NoInspect the steering shift switch. (See STEERING SHIFT SWITCH INSPECTION ) If the steering shift switch has a malfunction: Replace the steering shift switch. 1Access the TCM PID MNL SW using the M-MDS. (See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION [SJ6A-EL] ) Monitor the MLN SW PID with move the selector lever to all position and range. Does the MNL SW PID indicate properly?YesGo to the next step.
NoInspect the M range switch. (See SELECTOR LEVER COMPONENT INSPECTION ) If the M range switch has a malfunction: Replace the selector lever component. (See SELECTOR LEVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ) If the M range switch is normal: Inspect for continuity between manual switch terminal B and TCM terminal 2G. Repair or replace the suspected wiring harness.
2Access the TCM PIDs UP SW and DWN SW using the M-MDS. (See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION [SJ6A-EL] ) Monitor the UP SW and DWN SW PIDs by pressing the steering shift switch while the selector lever is in the D range. Are the UP SW and DWN SW PIDs indicated correctly?YesInspect the instrument cluster using the input/output test mode. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INSPECTION ) Replace the instrument cluster, if necessary. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
NoInspect the steering shift switch. (See STEERING SHIFT SWITCH INSPECTION ) If the steering shift switch has a malfunction: Replace the steering shift switch. (See STEERING SHIFT SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ) If the steering shift switch is normal: Inspect for continuity between the following terminals: Steering shift switch terminal F and TCM terminal 2AF. Steering shift switch terminal C and TCM terminal 2AB. Repair or replace the suspected wiring harness.
