IDENTIFICATION
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is used for correct application of components and assemblies. Number is on a plate located at top left of instrument panel and on transaxle flange (exhaust side of engine).
DESCRIPTION
The LJ4A-EL is a 4-speed electronically controlled automatic transaxle incorporating 5 multi-disc hydraulic clutches, 2 one-way clutches (sprag type) and a friction lined brake band that prevents rotation of front sun gear drum. (Scheme 115)
On/off and duty cycle solenoids control shift changes, line pressure and torque converter clutch lock-up. Solenoids are attached to valve body. Solenoids are operated by Transmission Control Module (TCM).
TCM receives information from various input devices and uses this information to control solenoids for transaxle shifting, line pressure, shift feel and torque converter clutch lock-up.
