MASS AIR FLOW (MAF)/INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]

Note. The MAF sensor and IAT sensor cannot be removed as a single unit. When replacing the MAF sensor or IAT sensor, replace it together with the MAF/IAT sensor as a single unit.

Scheme 86

Scheme 86: MASS AIR FLOW (MAF)/INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000).)
  2. Disconnect MAF/IAT sensor connector.
  3. Remove the MAF/IAT sensor. (Scheme 86): MAF/IAT Sensor And Screws With Torque Specification
  4. Install in the reverse order of removal.

AIR FUEL RATIO (A/F) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]

WARNINGA hot engine and exhaust system can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until they are cool before removing the exhaust system.

Scheme 87

Scheme 87: A/F Sensor (LH) Removal/Installation
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000).)
  2. Disconnect the A/F sensor (LH) connector. NOTE: If necessary, lubricate the A/F sensor with Penetrating and Lock Lubricant loosen to aid in removal.
  3. Remove the A/F sensor (LH) using the SST. (Scheme 87): A/F Sensor (LH) With Torque Specifications NOTE: Apply a light coat of anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the A/F sensor.
  4. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Scheme 88

Scheme 88: A/F Sensor (RH) Removal/Installation
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000).)
  2. Remove the following part for easier access. Windshield wiper arm and blade (See «WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM AND BLADE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-581618-S04530744522013101400000).) Cowl grille (See «COWL GRILLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-581657-S30702990112013101400000).) Windshield wiper motor (See «WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-581618-S05610234842013101400000).) Cowl panel (See «COWL PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-581621-S42468753042013101400000).)
  3. Disconnect the A/F sensor (RH) connector. NOTE: If necessary, lubricate the A/F sensor with Penetrating and Lock Lubricant loosen to aid in removal.
  4. Remove the A/F sensor (RH) using the SST. (Scheme 88): A/F Sensor (RH) With Torque Specifications NOTE: Apply a light coat of anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the A/F sensor.
  5. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Scheme 89

Scheme 89: A/F Sensor Inspection
  1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
  2. Drive the vehicle.
  3. Release the accelerator pedal while the engine speed is at 3,000 rpm or more and verify that the following monitor items fluctuate as shown in the figure while the vehicle decelerates. (See «ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581634-S14823860442013101400000).) (Scheme 89): Air Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor Graph For Speed VSS RPM O2S11, O2S21 If not within the specification, replace the A/F sensor. Scheme 90

Scheme 90: A/F Sensor Heater Inspection
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000).)
  2. Disconnect the A/F sensor connector.
  3. Measure the resistance between A/F sensor terminals C and E. (Scheme 90): Identifying A/F Sensor Connector Terminals If it is not within the specification, replace the A/F sensor. (See «AIR FUEL RATIO (A/F) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581669-S21642868922013101400000).) A/F sensor heater resistance 1-10 ohms

HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]

WARNINGA hot engine and exhaust system can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until they are cool before removing the exhaust system.

Scheme 91: HO2S (LH) Removal/Installation
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000).)
  2. Disconnect the HO2S (LH) connector. NOTE: If necessary, lubricate the HO2S (LH) with Penetrating and Lock Lubricant loosen to aid in removal.
  3. Remove the HO2S (LH) using the SST. (Scheme 91): HO2S (LH) With Torque Specifications NOTE: Apply a light coat of anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the HO2S.
  4. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Scheme 92: HO2S (RH) Removal/Installation
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000).)
  2. Remove the following part for easier access. Windshield wiper arm and blade (See «WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM AND BLADE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-581618-S04530744522013101400000).) Cowl grille (See «COWL GRILLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-581657-S30702990112013101400000).)   3. Disconnect the HO2S (RH) connector.
  4. Remove the front wheel and tire (RH). (See «GENERAL PROCEDURES (SUSPENSION)»(ref-581672-S33387535282013101400000).)
  5. Remove the splash shield (RH). (See «SPLASH SHIELD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-581657-S33349810032013101400000).)
  6. Disconnect the front drive shaft (RH) from the transaxle side. (See «DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-581658-S27921945112013101400000).) NOTE: If necessary, lubricate the HO2S (RH) with Penetrating and Lock Lubricant loosen to aid in removal.
  7. Remove the HO2S (RH) using the SST. (Scheme 92): HO2S (RH) With Torque Specifications NOTE: Apply a light coat of anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the HO2S.
  8. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Scheme 93

Scheme 93: HO2S Inspection
  1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
  2. Drive the vehicle.
  3. Release the accelerator pedal while the engine speed is at 3,000 rpm and verify that the following monitor items fluctuate as shown in the figure while the vehicle decelerates. (See «ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581634-S14823860442013101400000).) (Scheme 93): Heated Oxygen Sensor Speed Graph VSS RPM O2S12, O2S22 If not within the specification, replace the HO2S. Scheme 94

Scheme 94: HO2S Heater Inspection
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000).)
  2. Disconnect the HO2S connector.
  3. Measure the resistance between HO2S terminals C and A. (Scheme 94): Identifying HO2S Connector Terminals If it is not within the specification, replace the HO2S. (See «HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581669-S04593467262013101400000).) HO2S heater resistance 2-50 ohms

CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]

Note. Disconnect the connector after the CKP sensor is removed to prevent the CKP sensor from falling off. The bolt and sensor are integrated and cannot be pulled out. When removing the CKP sensor, be careful not to drop the tool. The bolt and sensor must be pulled in different directions. Pull them as indicated in the figure. (Scheme 95): CKP Sensor

Scheme 95: CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000).)
  2. Remove the catalytic converter (WU-TWC) (LH) for easier access. (See «EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581685-S29941466862013101400000).)
  3. Remove in the order indicated in the table. see scheme 27: CKP Sensor, Insulator, Cover, Connector, Nut And Bolt With Torque Specification
  4. Install in the reverse order of removal.

KNOCK SENSOR (KS) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]

Note. Put a tray under the converter housing to receive the engine coolant.

Scheme 96: Tray Under Converter Housing For Engine Coolant
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000).)
  2. Perform the following procedure for easier access. Complete the "BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION". (See «BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581677-S37721893482013101400000).) Remove the engine cover. (See «ENGINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581682-S04142926752013101400000).) Remove the ventilation hose. (See «QUICK RELEASE CONNECTOR (EMISSION SYSTEM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581680-S02274022292013101400000).) Remove the TP sensor connector. (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581679-S24618371532013101400000).) Remove the vacuum hose (to purge solenoid valve). (See «QUICK RELEASE CONNECTOR (EMISSION SYSTEM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581680-S02274022292013101400000).) Remove the vacuum hose (to master back). (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581679-S24618371532013101400000).) Remove the dynamic chamber. (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581679-S24618371532013101400000).) Remove the fuel hose. (See «QUICK RELEASE CONNECTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581677-S02581226402013101400000).) Remove the fuel distributor. (See «FUEL INJECTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581677-S10145534612013101400000).) Remove the intake manifold. (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581679-S24618371532013101400000).)
  3. Remove in the order indicated in the table. (Scheme 97): Knock Sensor, Connector, O-Ring, Water Inlet Pipe And Bolts With Torque Specification NOTE: Lubricate the new O-ring with clean engine coolant for installation.
  4. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  5. Complete the "AFTER SERVICE PRECAUTION". (See «AFTER SERVICE PRECAUTION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581677-S05884114432013101400000).)

Scheme 97

Scheme 97: KNOCK SENSOR (KS) INSPECTION [MZI 3.7 V6]
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000).)
  2. Disconnect the KS connector. (See «KNOCK SENSOR (KS) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581669-S35600625932013101400000).)
  3. Measure the resistance between the following terminals: (Scheme 98): Identifying Knock Sensor Connector Terminals KS terminals A and B (KS (RH)) KS terminals C and D (KS (LH)) If not as specified, replace the KS. (See «KNOCK SENSOR (KS) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581669-S35600625932013101400000).) KS resistance Approx. 4.87 megohms [ECT: 25 °C {77 °F}]

CYLINDER HEAD TEMPERATURE (CHT) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]

Note. Do not reuse the CHT sensor, install a new sensor.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000).)
  2. Perform the following procedure for easier access. Complete the "BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION". (See «BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581677-S37721893482013101400000).)   3. Disconnect the CHT sensor connector. see scheme 34: Identifying CHT Sensor
  4. Remove the CHT sensor using the following tools. Socket 3/8", 20mm, 6point Ratchet handle and torque wrench 3/8" Drive
  5. Install in the reverse order of removal. Tightening torque 9-12 N.m {92-122 kgf.cm, 80-106 in.lbf}
  6. Complete the "AFTER SERVICE PRECAUTION". (See «AFTER SERVICE PRECAUTION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581677-S05884114432013101400000).)
