PCM INSPECTION [MZI 3.7 V6]

CAUTIONThe PCM terminal voltage can vary with the conditions when measuring and changes due to aged deterioration on the vehicle, causing false diagnosis. Therefore determine comprehensively where the malfunction occurs among the input systems, output systems, and the PCM.

MASS AIR FLOW (MAF) SENSOR INSPECTION [MZI 3.7 V6]

Note. The MAF sensor and IAT sensor cannot be removed as a single unit. When replacing the MAF sensor or IAT sensor, replace it together with the MAF/IAT sensor as a single unit.

Visual Inspection

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000) .)
  2. Disconnect the MAF/IAT sensor connector.
  3. Remove the MAF/IAT sensor. (See «MASS AIR FLOW (MAF)/INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581669-S31282388122013101400000) .)
  4. Verify the following items of the MAF sensor. Dirt, damage, cracks Rusted sensor terminal Bent sensor terminal If there is any malfunction, replace the MAF/IAT sensor. (See «MASS AIR FLOW (MAF)/INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581669-S31282388122013101400000) .)

Scheme 78

Scheme 78: Voltage Inspection
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000).)
  2. Remove the MAF/IAT sensor with the connector still connected.
  3. Reconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000).)
  4. Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2. (Scheme 78): Identifying DLC-2
  5. Switch the ignition to ON.
  6. Verify that the MAF sensor output voltage (PID: MAF) changes when wind is introduced gradually to the sensor part of the MAF sensor. (See «ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581634-S14823860442013101400000).) If it cannot be verified, replace the MAF/IAT sensor. INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR INSPECTION [MZI 3.7 V6]

Note. The MAF sensor and IAT sensor cannot be removed as a single unit. When replacing the MAF sensor or IAT sensor, replace it together with the MAF/IAT sensor as a single unit.

Scheme 79

Scheme 79: INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR INSPECTION [MZI 3.7 V6]
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000).)
  2. Disconnect the MAF/IAT sensor connector.
  3. Measure the resistance between MAF/IAT sensor terminals A and F. (Scheme 79): Identifying MAF/IAT Sensor Connector Terminals If not within the specification, replace the MAF/IAT sensor. (See «MASS AIR FLOW (MAF)/INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581669-S31282388122013101400000).)

THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR INSPECTION [MZI 3.7 V6]

Note. The TP sensor cannot be removed as a single unit. When replacing the TP sensor, replace it together with the throttle body as a single unit.

Scheme 80

Scheme 80: THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR INSPECTION [MZI 3.7 V6]
  1. Verify that no DTC related to APP sensor has been detected. (See «ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581634-S14823860442013101400000).) If any DTCs related to APP sensor have been detected, perform the DTC inspection. (See «DTC TABLE [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581634-S02418225892013101400000).)
  2. Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2. (Scheme 80): Identifying DLC-2
  3. Switch the ignition to ON.
  4. Verify that the TP sensor output value (PID: TP1, TP2) is as indicated in the table below according to the condition of the accelerator pedal. (See «ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581634-S14823860442013101400000).) If it cannot be verified, replace the throttle body. (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581679-S24618371532013101400000).)

ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION (APP) SENSOR INSPECTION [MZI 3.7 V6]

Note. The APP sensor cannot be removed as a single unit. When replacing the APP sensor, replace it together with the accelerator pedal as a single unit.

Scheme 81

Scheme 81: ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION (APP) SENSOR INSPECTION [MZI 3.7 V6]
  1. Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2. (Scheme 81): Identifying DLC-2
  2. Switch the ignition to ON.
  3. Verify that the APP sensor output value (PID: APP1, APP2) change smoothly while throttle valve is gradually depressed. (See «ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581634-S14823860442013101400000).) If verified, go to the next step. If not as verified, replace the accelerator pedal. (See «ACCELERATOR PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581679-S35290961002013101400000).)
  4. Verify that the APP sensor output value (PID: APP1, APP2) is as indicated in the table below according to the condition of the accelerator pedal. (See «ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581634-S14823860442013101400000).) If not as verified, replace the accelerator pedal. (See «ACCELERATOR PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581679-S35290961002013101400000).)
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000) .)
  2. Remove the catalytic converter (WU-TWC) (LH) for easier access. (See «EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581685-S29941466862013101400000) .)
  3. Remove the CKP sensor. (See «CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581669-S37161461392013101400000) .)
  4. Verify that there are no metal shavings on the CKP sensor. If there is a malfunction, remove any metal shavings that are adhering.

Scheme 82

Scheme 82: Resistance Inspection
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000).)
  2. Remove the catalytic converter (WU-TWC) (LH) for easier access. (See «EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581685-S29941466862013101400000).)
  3. Remove the CKP sensor connector. (See «CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581669-S37161461392013101400000).)
  4. Measure the resistance between CKP sensor terminals A and B. (Scheme 83): Identifying CKP Sensor Connector Terminals If not within the specification, replace the CKP sensor. (See «CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581669-S37161461392013101400000).) CKP sensor resistance 575-790 ohms [18-28 °C {65-82 °F}]

Scheme 83

Scheme 83: CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000).)
  2. Remove the resonance chamber and air cleaner assy for easier access. (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581679-S24618371532013101400000).)
  3. Disconnect the CMP sensor connector
  4. Remove the CMP sensor. (Scheme 84): Head Cover (LH), Bracket CMP Sensors And Bolts With Torque Specification NOTE: Lubricate the CMP O-ring seal with clean engine oil.
  5. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000) .)
  2. Remove the resonance chamber and air cleaner assy for easier access. (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581679-S24618371532013101400000) .)
  3. Disconnect the CMP sensor connector
  4. Remove the CMP sensor. (See «CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581669-S31293231252013101400000) .)
  5. Verify that there are no metal shavings on the CMP sensor. If there is a malfunction, remove any metal shavings that are adhering.

Scheme 84

Scheme 84: Resistance Inspection
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000).)
  2. Remove the CMP sensor connector.
  3. Measure the resistance between CMP sensor terminals A and B. see scheme 30: Identifying CMP Sensor Connector Terminals If not within the specification, replace the CMP sensor. (See «CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581669-S31293231252013101400000).) CMP sensor resistance 800-1,320 ohms [18-28 °C {65-82 °F}]

CYLINDER HEAD TEMPERATURE (CHT) SENSOR INSPECTION [MZI 3.7 V6]

Note. Do not reuse the CHT sensor, install a new sensor.

Scheme 85

Scheme 85: CYLINDER HEAD TEMPERATURE (CHT) SENSOR INSPECTION [MZI 3.7 V6]
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000).)
  2. Disconnect the CHT sensor connector.
  3. Measure the resistance between CHT sensor terminals A and B. see scheme 35: Identifying CHT Sensor Connector Terminals If it is not within the specification, replace the CHT sensor. (See «CYLINDER HEAD TEMPERATURE (CHT) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581669-S09554013952013101400000).)

FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR INSPECTION [MZI 3.7 V6]

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000) .)
  2. Remove the evaporative hose component with the fuel tank pressure sensor connector still connected. (See «FUEL TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581677-S08004779262013101400000) .)
  3. Reconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581639-S29135432412013101400000) .)
  4. Switch the ignition to ON.
  5. Plug one end of the evaporative hose component and verify that the output voltage from the fuel tank pressure sensor changes when pressure is applied from the other hose end. If it cannot be verified, replace the evaporative hose component. (See «FUEL TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI 3.7 V6]»(ref-581677-S08004779262013101400000) .)
