BASIC INSPECTION [AY6A-EL]

STEPINSPECTIONACTION
1Measure the battery voltage. Is the battery voltage 10.0-14.0 V ?YesGo to the next step.
NoReplace or recharge the battery. (See BATTERY RECHARGING [MZI 3.7 V6] .)
2Inspect the TCM related harnesses, connectors and fuses. Are they normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoRepair or replace any malfunctioning parts according to the inspection result.
3Switch the ignition to ON. When the selector lever is moved, does the gear position indicator light indication correspond to the selector lever position? Also, when other positions are selected from N or P during idling, does the vehicle move within 1-2 s?YesGo to the next step.
NoInspect TR switch (built in TCM) and the adjustment of selector cable and TR switch. Repair or replace malfunctioning parts. (See TRANSAXLE RANGE (TR) SWITCH INSPECTION [AY6A-EL] .) 6Perform the stall test. Is the stall speed within the specified?YesGo to the next step.
NoRepair or replace any malfunctioning parts according to the inspection result.
7Perform the time lag test. Is the ATX operating normally?YesGo to the next step.
NoRepair or replace any malfunctioning parts according to the inspection result.
8Inspect the ATF color and condition. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF) INSPECTION [AY6A-EL] .) Are the ATF color and odor normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoRepair or replace any malfunctioning parts according to the inspection result. Flush the ATX and cooler line if necessary.
9Inspect the value at the following PCM and TCM PIDs using the M-MDS. (See PCM INSPECTION [MZI 3.7 V6] .) (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION [AY6A-EL] .) NOTE: If a tire of a different diameter from the standard tire is installed, the TCM determines that the driving mode is the AAS mode, and may change to a different shift timing from the normal timing. 2INSPECT SELECTOR LEVER AND SELECTOR CABLE ADJUSTMENT FOR MALFUNCTION Start the engine. Does vehicle move when selector lever in between N position and D position?YesInspect or adjust selector lever and cable. (See SELECTOR LEVER INSPECTION .) NoGo to No.27 "GEAR POSITION INDICATOR LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE IN D OR M POSITION", or No.28 "GEAR POSITION INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATE IN P, R OR N POSITION".
2INSPECT ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM FOR MALFUNCTION Go to No.12 "LACK/LOSS OF POWER (ACCELERATION/CRUISE)". (See NO.12 LACK/LOSS OF POWER-ACCELERATION/CRUISE [MZI 3.7 V6] .) Does engine control system normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoRepair or replace any malfunctioning parts according to the inspection results.
3INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOIDS FOR MALFUNCTION Stop the engine. Inspect following solenoid. Shift solenoid A (See SHIFT SOLENOID A INSPECTION [AY6A-EL] .) Shift solenoid B (See SHIFT SOLENOID B INSPECTION [AY6A-EL] .) Shift solenoid C (See SHIFT SOLENOID C INSPECTION [AY6A-EL] .) Shift solenoid D (See SHIFT SOLENOID D INSPECTION [AY6A-EL] .) NoGo to No.27 "GEAR POSITION INDICATOR LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE IN D OR M POSITION", or No.28 "GEAR POSITION INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATE IN P, R OR N POSITION".
2VERIFY SHIFT CONTROL OPERATION Drive the vehicle in D position and inspect following: 1-2 shift up and down 2-3 shift up and down 3-4 shift up and down 4-5 shift up and down 5-6 shift up and down Are all shift-up and shift-down possible?YesGo to the next step.
NoNo shift at all: Go to No.7 "NO SHIFTING". Abnormal shift: Go to No.9 "ABNORMAL SHIFTING".
3INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOIDS FOR MALFUNCTION Stop the engine. Inspect following solenoid. Shift solenoid C (See SHIFT SOLENOID C INSPECTION [AY6A-EL] .) Shift solenoid D (See SHIFT SOLENOID D INSPECTION [AY6A-EL] .) Shift solenoid E (See SHIFT SOLENOID E INSPECTION [AY6A-EL] .) Shift solenoid F (See SHIFT SOLENOID F INSPECTION [AY6A-EL] .) Line pressure control solenoid (See LINE PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID INSPECTION [AY6A-EL] .) Are they normal?YesGo to the next step.

1VERIFY TIRE CONDITION Inspect the tire size and air pressure. Is the tire of specified size and air pressure?YesGo to the next step.
NoReplace with a specified tire size or adjust the air pressure of each specified tire to the specified value.
2INSPECT ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL Display the following DSC CM PIDs using the M-MDS. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSIS [DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL (DSC)] .) WSPD_LF WSPD_LR WSPD_RF WSPD_RR Are the monitoring values displayed uniformly while driving?YesGo to the next step.
NoPerform the following inspections: ABS wheel-speed sensor installation inspection Is the ABS wheel-speed sensor installation normal? ABS sensor rotor installation inspection Is the ABS sensor rotor installed twisted? (may cause output of abnormal wave pattern at high speeds.) Are there missing teeth on the sensor rotor? If there is any malfunction, repair or replace the malfunctioning location.
3INSPECT TCM FOR POOR GROUND Inspect for continuity between the TCM terminal A9 and battery negative terminal. Is there continuity?YesGo to the next step.
NoRepair or replace ground circuit.
4INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOIDS FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect following shift solenoids. Shift solenoid C (See SHIFT SOLENOID C INSPECTION [AY6A-EL] .) 4INSPECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the instrument cluster. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INSPECTION .) Is instrument cluster normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoReplace the instrument cluster. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
5Verify test results. If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms. If malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Bulletins and/or On-line Repair Information and perform repair or diagnosis. If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting completed. 3VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS UP SWITCH SIGNAL OR INSTRUMENT CLUSTER Access the TCM PID UP_SW using the M-MDS. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION [AY6A-EL] .) Monitor the UP_SW PID with move the selector lever to "+" with M position. Does the UP_SW PID indicate properly?YesInspect the instrument cluster. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INSPECTION .)
NoInspect the up switch. (See UP SWITCH INSPECTION [AY6A-EL] .) If the up switch is normal, inspect for continuity between the selector lever component terminal B and TCM terminal A3.

If malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Bulletins and/or On-line Repair Information and perform repair or diagnosis. If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting completed.
