  1. LIST OF OPERATION METHODS By operating each of the A/C control switches as shown in the diagram below, it is possible to enter the diagnostic check mode.
  2. DESCRIPTION When troubleshooting a vehicle with the diagnosis system, the only difference from the usual troubleshooting procedure is connecting the intelligent tester to the vehicle and reading various date output from the vehicle's air conditioning amplifier. The air conditioning amplifier records DTCs when the computer detects a malfunction in the computer itself or in its circuits. To check the DTCs, connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3 on the vehicle. The intelligent tester enables you to erase the DTCs, activate the various actuators, and check the freeze frame date and Data List.
  3. CHECK THE DLC3 The air conditioning amplifier uses ISO 15765-4 for communication. The terminal arrangement of the DLC3 complies with SAE J1962 and matches the ISO 15765-4 format. Connect the cable of the intelligent tester to the DLC3, turn the ignition switch to the ON position and attempt to use the tester. If the display indicates that a communication error has occurred, there is a problem either with the vehicle or with the tester. If communication is normal when the tester is connected to another vehicle, inspect the DLC3 on the original vehicle. If communication is still not possible when the tester is connected to another vehicle, the problem may be in the tester itself. Consult the Service Department listed in the tester's instruction manual.
  4. INDICATOR CHECK Turn the ignition switch to the ON position while pressing the A/C control "AUTO" switch and "R/F" switch simultaneously. Check that the indicators come on and go off 4 times in succession at 1 second intervals. HINT: If a navigation system is installed, the indicator will blink and buzzer will sound. After the indicator check is completed, the system enters the DTC mode automatically. Press the "OFF" switch to cancel the check mode.

  1. INSPECT CONDENSER If the fins of the cooler condenser assembly are dirty, clean them with water and dry them with compressed air. NOTE: Do not damage the fins of the cooler condenser assembly. If the fins of the cooler condenser assembly are bent, straighten them using a screwdriver or pliers.
  2. INSPECT CONDENSER FOR LEAKAGE OF REFRIGERANT Using a halogen leak detector, check the pipe joints for gas leakage. If a gas leakage is detected in a joint, check the torque of the joint.

  7. DISCONNECT AIR CONDITIONING TUBE AND ACCESSORY ASSEMBLY Remove the bolt and disconnect the air conditioning tube and accessory assembly. Remove the O-ring from the air conditioning tube and accessory assembly. NOTE: Seal the openings of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent moisture and foreign matter from entering.
  8. REMOVE RADIATOR SUPPORT UPPER SUB-ASSEMBLY Remove the bolt and raise the bracket as shown in the illustration. Remove the cap. Disconnect the connector. Remove the 5 bolts, nut and radiator support upper sub-assembly.
  9. REMOVE RADIATOR SUPPORT UPPER LH SUB-ASSEMBLY Remove the 4 bolts and radiator support upper LH sub-assembly.
  10. REMOVE RADIATOR SUPPORT UPPER RH SUB-ASSEMBLY Remove the 4 bolts and radiator support upper RH sub-assembly.
  11. REMOVE COOLER CONDENSER ASSEMBLY Release the 4 clamps and wire harness. Remove the 4 bolts and disconnect sub with fan radiator assembly. Remove the 2 screws and cooler condenser assembly.

  2. INSTALL RADIATOR SUPPORT UPPER RH SUB-ASSEMBLY Install the radiator support upper RH sub-assembly with the 4 bolts. Torque: Bolt A 5.0 N*m (51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf) Bolt B 7.0 N*m (71 kgf*cm, 62 in.*lbf) Bolt C 3.9 N*m (40 kgf*cm, 35 in.*lbf)
  3. INSTALL RADIATOR SUPPORT UPPER LH SUB-ASSEMBLY Install the radiator support upper LH sub-assembly with the 4 bolts. Torque: Bolt A 5.0 N*m (51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf) Bolt B 7.0 N*m (71 kgf*cm, 62 in.*lbf) Bolt C 3.9 N*m (40 kgf*cm, 35 in.*lbf)
  4. INSTALL RADIATOR SUPPORT UPPER SUB-ASSEMBLY Install the radiator support upper sub-assembly with the 5 bolts and nut. Torque: Bolt 7.0 N*m (71 kgf*cm, 62 in.*lbf) Nut 8.0 N*m (82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf) Connect the connectors. Install the cap. Install the bracket with the bolt. Torque: 9.8 N*m (100 kgf*cm, 87 in.*lbf)
  5. INSTALL AIR CONDITIONING TUBE AND ACCESSORY ASSEMBLY Remove the attached vinyl tape from the tube and connecting part of the cooler condenser assembly. Sufficiently apply compressor oil to the new O-ring and fitting surface of the pipe joint. Compressor oil: ND-OIL 11 or equivalent NOTE: Do not use any compressor oil other than ND-OIL 11 or equivalent. If any compressor oil other than ND-OIL 11 or equivalent is used, compressor motor insulation performance may decrease, resulting in leakage of electric power. Install the O-ring on the air conditioning tube and accessory assembly. Connect the air conditioning tube and accessory assembly to the cooler condenser assembly with the bolt.   1. INSPECT HEATER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY Remove the heater water pump assembly. Disconnect the connector from the heater water pump assembly. Connect the positive (+) lead terminal 2 of the heater water pump assembly connector and the negative (-) lead to terminal 1. OK: Heater water pump operates smoothly. NOTE: Complete operation within 10 seconds if there is no water in the heater water pump assembly.
  1. INSPECT HEATER RELAY Remove the heater relay from the instrument panel J/B. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Resistance RESISTANCE SPECIFIED CONDITION Tester connection Condition Specified condition 3 - 4 Always Below 1 ohms 3 - 4 When battery voltage applied to terminals 1 and 2 10 kohms or higher 3 - 5 Always 10 kohms or higher 3 - 5 When battery voltage applied to terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 ohms If the resistance is not as specified, replace the heater relay. NOTE: While using the battery during inspection, do not bring the positive and negative tester probes too close to each other as a short circuit may occur.
