PRECAUTION [03/2012 - ]

  1. PRECAUTIONS FOR NIGHT VIEW SYSTEM The night view system includes a device to emit near-infrared rays, which is installed to each headlight assembly. When working in front of the vehicle, if you look directly at the headlights straight on for a long time (5 minutes or more) while the night view system is operating (near-infrared rays are being emitted), your eyes (corneas, lenses, etc.) may be damaged. Therefore, turn off the night view system before working in front of the vehicle. WARNING: When working on the vehicle while the night view system is operating, do not look directly at the headlight assemblies for a long time (5 minutes or more). The following objects are difficult for the system to display: Clothing made of certain materials (leather jacket, etc.) Information on signs The display may not be very clear under the following conditions: The weather conditions are poor, such as during rain, snow or fog. The road surface is very reflective, such as after rain when there are puddles. The windshield glass in front of the camera is clouded, dirty or frozen. There is ice, snow, dirt, etc. on the headlight assembly (near-infrared ray emitter). The auxiliary battery voltage is significantly low. There is a bright light source directed towards the vehicle from the front.
  2. PRECAUTIONS FOR NO. 1 NIGHT VIEW ECU AND NIGHT VIEW CAMERA REPLACEMENT The No. 1 night view ECU stores certain parameters after camera adjustment is performed. As a result, camera adjustment must be performed even when only the camera or only the ECU is replaced. As there are differences in the installation position of the camera depending on the particular vehicle, when normal ECUs or cameras are exchanged between 2 vehicles, parameters stored after adjustment may not match, which may result in the system not being able to display the night view picture in the correct position.

  2. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION The night view system uses a camera to detect the near-infrared rays emitted from the near-infrared ray emitting portion of the headlight assembly, as well as reflected light from the headlights and surrounding light, and creates a black and white image based on the intensity of the light. This is used to aid nighttime visibility. The image is displayed on the accessory meter assembly. HINT: Depending on road and weather conditions, visibility (image quality) may vary. The system cannot display all objects brightly. The image may be entirely dark, or parts of objects may be difficult to see. As the system sensitivity is calibrated for nighttime use, when the vehicle is in a bright area such as an area illuminated by street lights, or when the headlights of an oncoming vehicle are shining brightly, the image may become washed out (become white) and be unclear. If the inner or outer surface of the windshield glass is dirty, the image may become unclear. In this case, clean the windshield glass. When it is cold and the "FOOT" mode of the heater is used, the upper portion of the windshield glass may become clouded, resulting in the image becoming unclear. In this case, use the "DEF" mode and clear the windshield glass. If the headlight assembly is dirty, the image may become unclear. In this case, clean the headlight assembly. When the auxiliary battery voltage is low, the image darkens. In this case, charge the auxiliary battery or replace it with a new one.
  3. OPERATION CONDITIONS The night view system operates when the night view switch is pushed after the automatic light control sensor has determined from the ambient brightness that it is nighttime, and the headlights are illuminated.
