Testing & Diagnostics 2 illustrations ~313 words
  1. Check Input Signal - Turn ignition off. Disconnect CKP sensor sub-harness connector. (Scheme 46) Disconnect ECM harness connector. see scheme 3 Check for continuity as follows: Between CKP sensor sub-harness connector terminal No. 3 (White wire) and ECM connector terminal No. 44. Between CKP sensor sub-harness connector terminal No. 3 (White wire) and ECM connector terminal No. 48. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair harness or connectors as necessary.
  2. Check Ground Circuit - Turn ignition off. Loosen and retighten engine ground bolts. Check for continuity between CKP sensor sub-harness connector terminal No. 7 (Black wire) and engine ground. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair harness or connectors as necessary.
  3. Check Input Circuit - Leave ignition off. Disconnect CKP sensor harness connector. (Scheme 47) Check for continuity between CKP sensor connector terminal No. 1 (White wire) and CKP sensor sub-harness connector terminal No. 3 (White wire). If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair harness or connectors as necessary.
  4. Leave ignition off. Check for continuity between CKP sensor connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire) and CKP sensor sub-harness connector terminal No. 7 (Black wire). If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair harness or connectors as necessary.
  5. Check Component - Disconnect and remove CKP sensor. Loosen CKP sensor fixing bolt. Measure resistance between CKP sensor terminals. Replace CKP sensor if resistance is not 470-570 ohms at 68°F (20°C). If resistance is as specified, go to next step.
  6. Loosen and retighten engine ground screws. Disconnect ECM wiring harness connector. Check connector pins for damage or corrosion. Check all circuit connectors for clean, tight fit and service if necessary. If fault is still present, replace CKP sensor.
