DTC P0501 - VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS) RANGE Hyundai Accent I

  1. Install scan tool. Start engine and check if DTC P0501 is present. If DTC is present, go to next step. If DTC is not present, problem is intermittent.
  2. Turn ignition off. Check speedometer cable and drive gear. Repair as necessary. If speedometer cable and gear are okay, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Turn ignition on. Check for continuity between ECM terminal No. 42 and ground. See appropriate wiring diagram in «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-16576-S33969347622000122900000) section. Move vehicle or turn speedometer cable. If DVOM reading toggles, go to step 6). If DVOM reading does not toggle, go to next step.
  4. Reconnect ECM harness connector. Disconnect VSS harness connector. Turn ignition on. Connect DVOM between VSS harness connector terminal No. 5 and ground. Voltage reading should be 4.5-4.9 volts. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step. If voltage is as specified, go to step 6).
  5. Check for continuity between VSS harness connector terminal No. 6 and ground. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair circuit between VSS harness connector and ECM.
  6. Check terminals behind instrument cluster. Replace instrument cluster as necessary. If instrument cluster is okay, clear DTC. See «CLEARING DTC(S)»(ref-16576-S07254658492000122900000) . Retest system. If DTC resets, replace ECM.
