  3. Start the engine, and let it idle 10 seconds.
  4. Check the CMP NOISE B count in the DATA LIST with the HDS. Are 0 counts indicated? YES - Go to step 7 . NO - Go to step 5.
  5. Test-drive the vehicle for several minutes in the range of these recorded freeze data parameters: Engine speed Vehicle speed
  6. Check the CMP NOISE B count in the DATA LIST with the HDS. Are 0 counts indicated? YES - Go to step 7. NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at CMP sensor B and the ECM/PCM.
  7. Check for poor or loose connections and terminals at these locations: CMP sensor B ECM/PCM Engine ground Body ground Are the connections and terminals OK? YES - Go to step 8. NO - Reconnect the connectors or terminals, then go to step 11 .
  8. Check for damage on CMP pulse plate B (see «CMP PULSE PLATE B REPLACEMENT»(ref-219364-S25297734872006021400000) ). Is the plate damaged? YES - Replace CMP pulse plate B (see «CMP PULSE PLATE B REPLACEMENT»(ref-219364-S25297734872006021400000) ), then go to step 11 . NO - Go to step 9.
  9. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  10. Replace CMP sensor B (see «CMP SENSOR B REPLACEMENT»(ref-219371-S26364733792006021400000) ).
  11. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  12. Reset the ECM/PCM with the HDS.
  13. Do the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure (see «ECM/PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-219374-S42320443812006021400000) ).
  14. Start the engine, and let it idle 10 seconds.
  15. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated? YES - If DTC P0369 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at CMP sensor B and the ECM/PCM, then go to step 1 . If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting. NO - Troubleshooting is complete.

  1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
  3. Test-drive under these conditions: Transmission in 3rd gear Engine speed at 2,000-4,000 rpm Drive for several minutes, then decelerate (with the throttle fully closed) for 5 seconds
  4. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P0500 indicated? YES - Go to step 5. NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the VSS and the ECM.
  5. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  6. Disconnect the VSS 3P connector.
  7. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  8. Measure voltage between VSS 3P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground. Is there battery voltage? YES - Go to step 11 . NO - Go to step 9.
  9. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  10. Check the No.4 ACG (10 A) fuse in under-dash fuse/relay box. Is the fuse blown? YES - Repair short in the wire between the VSS and the No. 4 ACG (10 A) fuse, and replace the No. 4 ACG (10 A) fuse, then go to step 21 . NO - Repair open in the wire between the VSS and the No. 4 ACG (10 A) fuse, then go to step 21 .
  11. Measure voltage between VSS 3P connector terminal No. 3 and body ground. Is there about 5 V? YES - Go to step 18 . NO - Go to step 12.
  12. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  13. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
  14. Disconnect ECM connector A (31P).
  15. Check for continuity between VSS 3P connector terminal No. 3 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Repair short in the wire between the ECM (A18), the gauge assembly, and the VSS, then go to step 21 . NO - Go to step 16.
  16. Connect VSS 3P connector terminal No. 3 to body ground with a jumper wire.
  17. Check for continuity between ECM connector terminal A18 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Go to step 27 . NO - Repair open in the wire between the ECM (A18) and the VSS, then go to step 21 .
  18. Check for continuity between VSS 3P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Go to step 19. NO - Repair open in the wire between the VSS and G101, then go to step 21 .
  19. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
