Transmission/Transaxle

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Place drain pan under transmission. Loosen oil pan retaining bolts. Drain fluid from transmission. Remove oil pan bolts individually. This allows remaining fluid to drain slowly to prevent spillage. Remove oil pan.
  2. Discard pan gasket. Remove and clean filter screen. Reinstall or replace filter screen using new "O" rings.
  3. Clean oil pan, and install pan using new pan gasket. Pour 3 qts. (2.8L) of fluid through filler tube. Start engine, and engage all gears. Check fluid level, adding required amount.

Note. Transmission oil cooler and lines should be thoroughly flushed if transmission is removed for any reason. Use Cooler Line Disconnector (T82L-9500-AH) when disconnecting cooler lines.

4EAT

Remove lower oil pan. Loosen 2-4 band lock nut and tighten piston stem to 105-130 INCH lbs. (12-15 N.m). Loosen piston stem1 1/2 turns. Hold piston stem and tighten lock nut to 18-29 ft. lbs. (24-39 N.m). Install oil pan and refill transmission.

CD4E & 4EAT

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove floor console. Shift gear shift lever to Park position. Remove position indicator mounting screws and position indicator. On 4EAT, slide lock cover back. (Scheme 1)
  2. On all models, disconnect set button. Slide gear shift lever to adjust Park position. Connect set button. On 4EAT, slide lock cover to lock set button in place. On all models, install position indicator. Install floor console.

CD4E

Remove nut securing Manual Lever Position (MLP) sensor to manual lever. Turn manual lever to neutral position. Loosen bolts securing MLP sensor to transaxle. Using Adjuster (T92P-70010-AH), align MLP sensor slots. Tighten MLP sensor mounting bolts. Install manual lever retaining nut. Tighten nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table. Test sensor operation.

Note. Probe models equipped with 4EAT transaxle use MLP switch instead of MLP sensor.

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove shift cable from manual shaft. Disconnect MLP switch connector. Rotate manual shaft to align with alignment mark on top of MLP switch.
  2. Loosen MLP sensor mounting bolts. Adjust MLP switch so that continuity is present between terminals "A" and "H", and between terminals "F" and "I". (Scheme 2) Tighten mounting bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-1700-S42505363392000031400000) table. Install shift cable and negative battery cable.
