Cooling System Flushing

MATERIALS SPECIFICATIONS

1. Refer to: «ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM HEALTH AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS»(ref-515929-S15073665342012120400000) .
2. Add Motorcraft Premium Cooling System Flush to the cooling system and follow the directions on the package. Material: Motorcraft® Premium Cooling System Flush / VC-1 (ESR-M14P7-A)
3. Remove the radiator. Refer to: «Radiator»(ref-515984-S03776411122012120400000) .
4. Position the radiator with the upper radiator hose connection facing down. Use a high pressure water hose to backflush the radiator through the lower radiator hose connection.
5. Remove the thermostat housing. Refer to: «Thermostat Housing»(ref-515984-S03620469072012120400000) .
6. Position a high pressure water hose into the upper radiator hose and backflush the engine.
7. Install the thermostat housing. Refer to: «Thermostat Housing»(ref-515984-S03620469072012120400000) .
8. Install the radiator. Refer to: «Radiator»(ref-515984-S03776411122012120400000) .
9. Fill and bleed the cooling system. Refer to: «Cooling System Draining and Vacuum Filling»(ref-515984-S15674360012012120400000) . Refer to: «Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding»(ref-515984-S18220348442012120400000) .

1. Refer to: «ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM HEALTH AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS»(ref-515929-S15073665342012120400000) .
2. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: «JACKING AND LIFTING - OVERVIEW»(ref-515942-S20089493392012120400000) .
3. Remove the 6 pushpins, the 7 screws and the radiator air deflector.
4. Release the pressure in the cooling system by slowly turning the pressure relief cap 1/2 turn counterclockwise. When the pressure is released, remove the pressure relief cap.
5. Open the radiator draincock and drain the cooling system.
6. Close the radiator draincock when finished.
