Note. Identification information not applicable.
Bronco & Pickup Models
- Drain cooling system and crankcase. Mark hood hinges and remove hood. Disconnect battery and remove ground cables from cylinder block. Remove air cleaner and intake duct assembly with crankcase ventilation and carbon canister hoses attached. Disconnect radiator hoses.
- Disconnect automatic transmission cooler lines (if equipped). If equipped with A/C, discharge system, remove condenser and disconnect hoses at compressor. Remove fan shroud, radiator, fan spacer and pulley. Remove alternator attaching bolts and position alternator aside.
- Disconnect oil pressure sending unit wire. Disconnect and plug flexible fuel line at fuel tank line. Disconnect vacuum lines, carbon canister hose, heater hoses and electrical wiring from engine. Disconnect primary wire at coil. On 5.0L EFI models, disconnect chassis fuel line quick disconnect fittings at fuel rail.
- Disconnect accelerator cable, transmission shift rod and speed control linkages and retracting spring from carburetor/throttle body. Disconnect power brake booster vacuum hose, if equipped. Remove bellhousing-to-engine upper bolts. Raise front of vehicle. Remove starter.
- Disconnect exhaust pipes (and exhaust heat control valve, if equipped) from manifolds. Disconnect engine mounts from brackets on frame. If equipped with automatic transmission, remove converter inspection plate and flex plate-to-converter attaching bolts.
- Remove remaining bellhousing-to-engine bolts. Lower vehicle and support transmission. Attach lifting device to engine. Carefully raise engine and separate it from transmission. Lift engine from vehicle taking care not to damage rear cover plate.
Van Models
