Engine Oil Pan Removal - 6-cyl Ford Cab & Chassis Ranger

4.9L OIL PAN REMOVAL - BRONCO & "F" PICKUP

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain engine oil and cooling system. Remove radiator. On California Pickup models, disconnect hoses to air by-pass/air control valve. Remove valve from rear of engine.
  2. On all models, raise vehicle. Remove starter. Remove front engine mount nuts. Raise front of engine with jack and wood block. Place 1" blocks of wood under engine mounts.
  3. Lower engine onto blocks and remove transmission jack. Remove oil pan bolts and lower pan to crossmember. Remove oil pump and inlet tube bolts. Lower assembly into bottom of pan. Remove oil pan.

4.9L OIL PAN REMOVAL - VAN MODELS

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove engine cover, air cleaner and carburetor. On models with A/C, discharge system and remove compressor. Drain cooling system.
  2. Remove EGR valve. On E250 (Heavy Duty models) and E350 models, remove thermactor check valve after disconnecting hose. On all models, remove upper radiator hose. Remove fan shroud.
  3. On models with automatic transmission, remove filler tube. On all models, disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold. Raise vehicle. Disconnect and plug fuel pump inlet line. Remove alternator heat shield and front engine mount nuts.
  4. Disconnect lower radiator hose and transmission cooler lines. Remove power steering return line clip located in front of crossmember. Remove starter and engine oil dipstick tube. Raise engine and place 3" blocks under engine mounts.
  5. Lower engine. Remove oil pan bolts. Remove oil pump pick-up and screen. Remove oil pan. Clean pan and block gasket surfaces.
