- Valve guides are not replaceable. Wear in the bottom .39" (10.0 mm) of valve guide is acceptable. Using a hole gauge, measure inside diameter of guide perpendicular (crosswise) to camshaft. Measure at top of bore and .39" (10.0 mm) from bottom of bore. Measure diameter of valve stem.
- Subtract diameter of valve stem from greater of 2 valve guide inner diameter measurements. Resulting value is valve stem-to-guide oil clearance. If clearance exceeds specification, determine whether installing a NEW standard diameter valve stem will bring clearance within specification. If it will not, replace cylinder head.
