Engine can be identified by eighth character of Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) stamped on a metal pad, located on top of dash, near left end of windshield. If eighth character of VIN is "Y" (RPO Code LD8) or "9" (RPO Code L37), engine is a 4.6L V8 Northstar. Also, a "V" in tenth character of VIN indicates 1997 model year.
