Note. If the correct coding for the vehicle is not displayed, or if the control module has been replaced, the control module must be coded. Coding is checked via VAS 5051 or VAG1551 scan tool. During control module identification a 5-digit code must always be displayed. Incorrect coding may lead to higher emissions and increased strain on the automatic transmission resulting from harsh gearshift jolts.

- Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 or VAG1551 scan tool and select engine electronics control module by entering address word "01". When doing this the ignition must be switched ON. Indicated on display
- Press buttons -0- and -7- to select function "Code Control Module" and confirm entry with -Q- button. Indicated on display
- Input appropriate code number for this vehicle and confirm with -Q- button.
