Glove compartment, removing and installing

Open glove compartment cover. Remove three bolts -3- at top in depressions of glove compartment -1-. Remove outside bolts -5- (2x) out from the side. Remove bolts -4- (2x) from the footwell out from below. Remove glove compartment downward. Remove connector -6- of glove compartment illumination. Disconnect harness connectors to electrical components in glove compartment (if applicable).
Pulling Off Right Cover On Instrument Panel
- Pull off right cover on instrument panel -arrow- using special tool 3370.
Glove compartment lock, removing and installing

- Remove bolt -3- of handle -2- on the cover side.
- Pull handle -3- off from glove compartment cover.

There is a hole on each side near the bracket on the right and left inside the glove compartment.

Automatic day/night interior rear view mirror, testing function
Test requirements
- Rear view mirror installed.
- Ignition switched on.
- Reverse gear not selected.
Test sequence
- Cover photo sensor on front of mirror (or tape).
- Use a light source (flashlight) to direct light onto the photo sensor on rear of mirror. The interior rear view mirror must darken within a few seconds.
Interior rear view mirror with compass (only USA), calibrating
Setting of North is integrated in interior rear view mirror via a world-zone dependent magnetic field.
The compass directions N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W and NW are shown in the digital display. see scheme 48
A new rear view mirror, or a rear view mirror which has had no current for a long period of time, must be initially calibrated prior to use (nothing or a "C" appears in display).
Calibration of a new compass
- Switch ignition on.
- "C" must appear in display.
- If there is no "C", press adjustment switch on underside of mirror using a thin object (e.g. pencil) until "C" appears in display.
- Drive slowly at approx. 10 km/h around in a circle 2 to 3 times until a compass direction is displayed.
- Press adjustment switch on underside of mirror using a thin object (e.g. pencil) until the number of your zone appears in display.
- Refer to the adjacent card for your zone.
- A compass direction appears in the display after a few seconds.
Calibration of an already existing compass
- Switch ignition on.
- "C" must appear in display.
- If there is no "C", press adjustment switch on underside of mirror using a thin object (e.g. pencil) until "C" appears in display.
- Drive slowly at approx. 10 km/h around in a circle 2 to 3 times until a compass direction is displayed.
Zone adjustment
- Switch ignition on.
- Press adjustment switch on underside of mirror using a thin object (e.g. pencil) until the number of your zone appears in display.
- Refer to the adjacent card for your zone.
- A compass direction appears in the display after a few seconds.

Repair method using glass/metal glue

| WARNING | Use adhesive material at room temperature and observe the manufacturer's guidelines for safety and use. The adhesive material hardens fully after several hours. |
Scheme 14
- Interior rear view mirror dimension -a- = 153 mm (upper edge of front sheet to center adhering plate on mirror support).
Procedure
- Pull mirror plate out of mirror base.
- Using a wire brush, remove any remaining adhesive from mirror plate.
- Sand the three spacer knobs on the adhesive surface. Use sandpaper (360/400 grit) on level surface.
- Maintain sanded surface free of dirt and grease.
- Using glass scraper, scrape adhesive and primer down to ceramic layer on windshield.
| WARNING | Do not damage ceramic layer. Scratches are always visible. |
- Clean adhesive surface with adhesive remover D 002 000 10 or cleaning solution D 009 401 04.
- Cut nylon mesh to exact dimensions of mirror base.
Note. Wear rubber gloves.
- Spread thick layer of adhesive evenly on mirror base.
- Lay nylon mesh on mirror base.
- While applying more adhesive, use tube to tap lightly on nylon mesh. 30 seconds are available between applying adhesive to nylon mesh and pressing onto windshield.
- Press mirror base (without force) onto windshield and hold for 15 seconds.
- Use a towel to remove excess adhesive. NOTE: Install rear view mirror after 15 minutes.
