Front door trim components, assembly overview

The following list pertains to (Scheme 2).

  1. Speed nut (4x)
  2. Bolt (4x)
  3. Screws (2x)

  8. Door trim. Removal Remove lower part of armrest -5-. Remove screws -3- (2x) from door trim -8-. Remove bolts -6- from door trim -8-. Unclip decorative panel -4-. Remove decorative panel -4- toward front. Remove bolt -2- (4x) from door trim -8-. Unclip door trim -8-, see «UNCLIPPING DOOR TRIM»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#interior-trim-except-cabriolet__unclipping-door-trim) . Raise door trim -8- upward approx. 20 cm. out from door shell. Disengage Bowden cable for interior door mechanism, see «DISENGAGING BOWDEN CABLE»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#interior-trim-except-cabriolet__disengaging-bowden-cable) Disconnect electrical harness connectors, see «DISCONNECTING ELECTRICAL HARNESS CONNECTORS»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#interior-trim-except-cabriolet__disconnecting-electrical-harness-connectors) Installing When installing, speed nuts -1- (4x) for expanding nuts -7- (4x) must be clipped in. When installing, door trim must be pressed in the middle to door shell.

Disengaging Bowden Cable

  1. Remove securing ring -3-.
  2. Pull Bowden cable -1- out of guide -2- and remove.

Disconnecting electrical harness connectors

Note. When installing make sure that catch -3- faces upward.

  1. Press catch -2- and remove harness connector -3- from control module in direction of arrow.
  2. Disconnect harness connector to bass speaker.

Unclipping Door Trim

  1. Press catches -2- and disconnect clip -1- in direction of arrow.

Armrest, assembly overview

Switches for window regulator, mirror adjustment and central locking, removing and installing

The following list pertains to (Scheme 6).

  1. Armrest Removal Remove door trim, see «FRONT DOOR TRIM COMPONENTS, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#interior-trim-except-cabriolet__front-door-trim-components-assembly-overview) . Remove bolts -2- (11x). Remove armrest -1- to side.
  2. Bolt (11x) For vehicles with manual window crank: Remove manual window crank, see «MANUAL WINDOW CRANK, REMOVING AND INSTALLING»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#interior-trim-except-cabriolet__manual-window-crank-removing-and-installing) .
  3. Window regulator switch For vehicles with electric window regulators: Remove window regulator switch, see «POWER WINDOW SWITCH, REMOVING AND INSTALLING»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#interior-trim-except-cabriolet__power-window-switch-removing-and-installing)
  4. Mirror adjustment switch Removal Press in tab on connector for mirror adjustment switch -4- and remove it. Remove mirror adjustment switch -4- using a screwdriver.
  5. Central locking switch Removal Press in tab on connector for central locking switch -5- and remove it. Pry out central locking switch -5- using a screwdriver. Raise door trim -1- upward approx. 20 cm. out from door shell. Disengage Bowden cable for interior door mechanism, see «DISENGAGING BOWDEN CABLE»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#interior-trim-except-cabriolet) . Disconnect electrical harness connectors, see «DISCONNECTING ELECTRICAL HARNESS CONNECTORS»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#interior-trim-except-cabriolet) . Installing When installing manual window crank, note its position, see «MANUAL WINDOW CRANK, REMOVING AND INSTALLING»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#interior-trim-except-cabriolet__manual-window-crank-removing-and-installing) .
  1. Remove securing ring -3-.

Manual window crank, removing and installing

  1. Remove cover -1- of manual window crank -3- upward.
  2. Remove bolt -2- of manual window crank -3-.
  3. Remove manual window crank -3- upward.
  4. Installation position -a- must be adjusted by 5° to 20° with window closed.

Power window switch, removing and installing

  1. Press in tab -2- on connector for window regulator switch -1- and remove it.
  2. Pry out window regulator switch -1- using a screwdriver.

Cable routing and door trim, assembly overview

Door warning light and footwell lighting, removing and installing

  1. Detach door warning light -1- from below using a screwdriver and remove toward outside together with cable.
  2. Disconnect door warning light -1-.
  3. Detach front footwell lighting -2- using a screwdriver and remove toward outside together with cable.
  4. Disconnect footwell lighting -2-.

Treble speaker, removing and installing

  1. Remove door trim, see «FRONT DOOR TRIM COMPONENTS, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#interior-trim-except-cabriolet__front-door-trim-components-assembly-overview)
  2. Press back catches -2- (3x) using a flat-head screwdriver.
  3. Remove treble speaker -1-.

Bass speaker, removing and installing

  1. Remove door trim, see «FRONT DOOR TRIM COMPONENTS, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#interior-trim-except-cabriolet__front-door-trim-components-assembly-overview)
  2. Remove bolts -1- (3x). Tightening torque 1.5 Nm.
  3. Remove bass speaker -2- and disconnect electrical connection.

Interior door mechanism, removing and installing

  1. Remove door trim, see «FRONT DOOR TRIM COMPONENTS, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#interior-trim-except-cabriolet__front-door-trim-components-assembly-overview) .
  2. Central locking switch, removing, see «ARMREST, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#interior-trim-except-cabriolet__armrest-assembly-overview) .
  3. Remove bolt -1-.
  4. Press retaining tabs -2- (2x) and remove interior door handle -3- toward the front.

Rear door trim, assembly overview

The following list pertains to see scheme 18.

  1. Door trim. Removal Unclip decorative panel -2-. Remove decorative panel -2- toward front. Remove bolts -3- (3x) from door trim -1-. Installing

When installing, speed nuts -8- (4x) for expanding nuts -7- (4x) must be clipped in.

When installing, door trim must be pressed in the middle to door shell.

When installing manual window crank, note its position. See MANUAL WINDOW CRANK, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Door warning light, removing and installing

  1. Detach door warning light -1- from below using a screwdriver and remove toward outside together with cable.
  2. Disconnect door warning light -1-.

  2. Remove bolts -1- (3x). Tightening torque 1.5 Nm.
  3. Remove bass speaker -2- and disconnect electrical connection.

  2. Using a screwdriver detach bracket -1-.
  3. Remove treble speaker -2-.
  4. Pull wiring harness from door trim up to bass speaker.

Interior door handle, removing

  1. Remove door trim, see «REAR DOOR TRIM, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#interior-trim-except-cabriolet__rear-door-trim-assembly-overview) .
  2. Remove bolt -1-.
  3. Remove interior door mechanism -2- toward front.

  1. Remove caps -2-. Disengage gripping part of sun shade -4-. Remove bolts -1- (4x). Tightening torque: 1.5 Nm. Remove sun shade -2-.

Retaining clips for sun shade, removing and installing

  1. Sheet metal screws - 1.5 Nm.
  2. Retaining hook

Note. Backing plate -3- is used to balance out tolerances and must be reinserted where it was installed by the factory.

Removing

CAUTIONOn vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar(R), switch-off the emergency (back-up) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting the vehicle battery. Switch-on the emergency (back-up) battery after reconnecting the vehicle battery. See TELEMATICS .
  1. Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap from battery.
  2. Removing driver side airbag unit (standard steering wheel). See appropriate Air Bag Restraint Systems article.
  3. Removing driver side airbag unit (sport steering wheel). See appropriate Air Bag Restraint Systems article.
  4. Removing driver side airbag unit (multi-function steering wheel). See appropriate Air Bag Restraint Systems article.
  5. Remove steering wheel (standard steering wheel). See appropriate Air Bag Restraint Systems article.

  1. Press light switch -arrow 1- and turn toward the right simultaneously -arrow 2-.

  4. Disconnect electrical harness connector.
  5. Press headlight beam adjuster from switch housing.
  6. Disconnect electrical harness connector.

Upper trim for steering column switches, removing

Driver-side airbag and steering wheel removed.

  1. Pull steering column all the way out and down.
  2. Remove bolts -1- (2x). Tightening torque: 3 Nm

  6. Remove nuts -3- (2x) of 6-pin relay carrier -4- with control module for vehicle electrical system. Tightening torque: 2.4 Nm
  7. Lay the relay carrier with attached wires downward.
  8. Remove wiring harness behind relay carrier from cross member and set it aside.
  9. Remove bolt -2- of pedal bracket. Tightening torque: 23 Nm.
  10. Remove bolts -1- (4x). Tightening torque: 22 Nm.
  11. Place steering column in driver-side footwell.
  12. Remove bolts -1- (4x) of left brace. Tightening torque: 9 Nm.
  13. Remove bolt -2-. Tightening torque: 8 Nm NOTE: Brace remains installed, so it is sufficient to only loosen bolt -3- and swing the brace downward.
  14. Loosen/remove bolt -3- (front mount for brace on air conditioner). Tightening torque 8 Nm.
  15. Remove brace or swing it downward.
  16. Disengage air guide at air conditioner -arrow 1- and remove it upward -arrow 2-.
  17. Remove bolts -1- (4x). Tightening torque: 9 Nm.
  18. Move cable -2- clear.
  19. Remove right support.
  20. Remove bolts -1- (2x) of bracket for air conditioner. Tightening torque: 11 Nm.
  21. Pry off both covers -3- using a screwdriver.
  22. Loosen hex-nuts -4- by several turns.
  23. Loosen wiper arm -2- by lightly tilting from wiper axle.
  24. Remove hex nuts completely and remove wiper arms.

  29. If installed, lay the Transmission Control Module (TCM) with attached wires aside.
  30. Remove bolts -2- (2x) of connector station. Tightening torque: 3 Nm
  31. Remove cross member bolt -1- for instrument panel in plenum chamber. Tightening torque: 6 Nm.
  32. Remove left bolts -1- (2x). Tightening torque: 35 Nm.
  33. Remove top bolt -3-. Tightening torque: 6 Nm.
  34. Remove ground (GND) wires -2-.
  35. Remove right bolt -2-. Tightening torque: 35 Nm.

  37. Move cross member for instrument panel several millimeters toward the front.

Unclip D-pillar trim-1- from top downward. Remove D-pillar trim upward out of side luggage compartment trim. Remove D-pillar trim to the rear from trim -4- above rear door. Remove bolts for side curtain airbag in rear portion. See appropriate Air Bag Restraint Systems article. Remove bolts -6-. Remove trim -5- above rear side window. Installing Installation is reverse of removal, noting the following. Secure side curtain airbag with new bolts, see appropriate Air Bag Restraint Systems article. Slide D-pillar trim into mount for cover -4- above rear doors. Insert D-pillar trim behind luggage compartment trim and to the side. Insert trim -1- into mounts using clips -2- Tailgate rubber must be laid over D-pillar trim. WARNING: Make sure trim has a proper fit.

  4. Cover above rear door

  6. Bolts (2x) Tightening torque: 3.5 Nm

Releasing Attachment Eyelet For Partition Grill

  1. Press covering plate -1- in eyelet partition grill -2- to the rear and remove the bolt lying behind it.

Roof end trim, assembly overview

The following list pertains to see scheme 126.

  1. Roof end trim Removal Unclip four clips -2- on vehicle frame. Remove roof end trim -1-. Installing Tailgate rubber must be laid over roof end trim. WARNING: Make sure trim has a proper fit.

  2. Bolts (4x) Tightening torque: 1.5 Nm
  3. Lower tailgate trim Removal Open lid for warning triangle and remove warning triangle. Remove bolts -2- (4x). Disengage locking mechanism on left and right at top of trim using special tool 3370. See «DISENGAGING LOWER TRIM FROM LOCKING MECHANISM»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#interior-trim-except-cabriolet__disengaging-lower-trim-from-locking-mechanism) . Carefully remove spring clips -4- for lower trim on left and right from rear lid. Reach between trim and rear lid and disengage four more spring clips -4-. Remove trim. Installing Make sure that the trim engages into plate on lid lock. WARNING: Make sure trim has a proper fit.
  4. Spring clips (6x)

Disengaging lower trim from locking mechanism

  1. Disengage locking mechanism on left and right at top of trim using special tool 3370 -arrows-.

Part 2

The following list pertains to see scheme 129.

  1. Bolts (2x) Tightening torque: 1.5 Nm
  2. Upper tailgate trim Removal Remove lower tailgate trim. See «REAR LID TRIM, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#interior-trim-except-cabriolet) . Remove bolts -1- (2x). Press off spring clips on side edges of trim from rear lid (4x). Remove spring clips -3- on upper trim from rear lid (4x). Installing Before installing upper lid trim -2-, make sure rubber buffers -4- (8x) are installed. Guide upper lid trim first behind side window frame of rear lid. Clip in trim first at top and then on sides.

Tailgate rubber must be laid over lid end trim. WARNING: Make sure trim has a proper fit.
  3. Bolt Tightening torque 1.8 Nm.
  4. Bolts (4x) Tightening torque 4 Nm.

Note. Observe catches -2- and -4- when removing.

  1. Disconnect electrical harness connector -3-.
  1. Installation is reverse of removal.

Partition grill, assembly overview

The following list pertains to see scheme 134.

  1. Partition grill Removal Fold both rear backrests forward. Press partition grill -1- from 1/3 rear backrest in direction toward 2/3 rear backrest -4-. Remove partition grill. Installing Guide holding bracket -2- into recess on 2/3 backrest. Press partition grill -1- in direction of 1/3 backrest, so that the 2/3 backrest lifts up slightly.
