Front windshield wiper system, servicing
| CAUTION | Before beginning repairs on the electrical system: Obtain the anti-theft radio security code. Switch the ignition off. Disconnect the battery Ground(GND) strap. On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar®, switch-off the emergency (back-up) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting vehicle battery. See EMERGENCY BATTERY, SWITCHING OFF/ON . After reconnecting vehicle battery, re-code and check operation of anti-theft radio. Also check operation of clock and power windows according to Repair Manual and/or Owner's Manual. After reconnecting vehicle battery on vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar ®, switch-on the emergency (back-up) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Modul. - Disconnect battery Ground strap with ignition switched off.
Note. Steps after re-connecting voltage supply. See BATTERY DISCONNECT PRECAUTIONS .
Special tools and equipment
- Prybar 80-200
Removing
- Remove rubber seal from plenum chamber cover in direction of arrow.
- Remove plenum chamber cover -1- from the front.
Removing wiper arms
- Switch windshield wipers on and off, allowing wiper arms to return to park position.
- Use screwdriver to pry off the two caps -3-. (Scheme 34)
- Slacken hex nuts -4- a number of turns.
- Loosen wiper arms -2- by tilting them gently from wiper shaft.
- Remove hex nuts completely and remove wiper arms.
- Pull off securing clips -1- and remove cowl panel grille -5-.
Scheme 32
- Remove electronics box cover in plenum chamber -arrows-.
- Pry wiper linkage -2- from ball head using pry bar 80-200.
- Unscrew crank from wiper motor.
- Unclip line/hose guides on wiper frame.
- Remove bolts -arrows- and completely detach wiper frame -1-.
- Unplug connector.
Detaching wiper motor from wiper frame
- Unscrew wiper motor from wiper frame -arrows-.
Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following

- Screw wiper motor without crank to wiper frame to 9 Nm - arrows-.
- Plug connector to wiper motor.
- Install wiper motor with wiper frame into vehicle (8 Nm).
- Actuate flick wipe switch.
- Allow wiper motor to run into park position.
- Align crank -1- to wiper frame and tighten nut -2- to 18Nm. alpha = 2

Wiper blade park position, setting
- Allow wiper motor to run into park position.
- Position wiper blades on windshield and align as follows

DIMENSIONS FOR SETTING FRONT WIPER BLADE PARK POSITION
Note. The figures given here are the distances between wiper blades and cowl panel grille of plenum chamber at bottom edge of windshield.
- Tighten nut for wiper arms to 21 Nm.
- Actuate flick wipe switch.
- If necessary, realign wiper arms and retighten nuts.
- Lift wiper arm off of front windshield.
- Press onto disengaging button at linkage -arrow-.
- Remove wiper blade -2 downward from wiper arm -1-.
- When inserting wiper blade -2- on drivers side, make sure wiper blade engages in the tab and retaining bracket at spoiler engages in wiper blade.
- Lock wiper blade by pressing onto disengaging button.
Front windshield washer system, servicing

- If installed, remove cover -1- at left in engine compartment.
- Unscrew upper section of washer fluid reservoir -arrows-.
- Pull upper section of washer fluid reservoir out from bottom section of washer fluid reservoir.
Removing bottom section of washer fluid reservoir
- Remove front left wheel.
- Remove front left wheel housing liner

Scheme 36
- Unscrew bottom section of washer fluid reservoir -arrow-.
- Swivel bottom section of washer fluid reservoir slightly rearward.
- Unplug connectors -2 to 4-. see scheme 15
- Pull off hose connector -1- (press release tabs).
- Pull off washer fluid line -5-.
- Remove washer fluid reservoir downward.
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following
- Tighten bolts in sequence -1 to 3-.

- Unclip base of spray jet from bottom of hood -arrow-.
- Pull water hose off unclipped spray jet.
- If installed, disconnect electrical harness connector.
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following
Note. Water hose must audibly engage in connection of spray jet.
- Adjusting tool for washer jet 3125 A with needle 3125 / 5A
Procedure
Note. The adjustment dimensions indicate the values for a moving vehicle, i.e. the spray from the jets is slightly offset when the vehicle is stationary.
- Mark four points on windshield with water-soluble ink: Dimension a = 250 to 275 mm Dimension b = 465 to 490 mm Dimension c = 270 to 415 mm Dimension d = 140 to 225 mm
- Use adjusting tool to aim individual spray jets at points marked.
Rear windshield wiper and washer system, servicing (Avant)

Rear windshield wiper, removing and installing
Note. Make sure that wiper motor is in park position before removing wiper arm.
The following list pertains to see scheme 20.
- Connection line For spray jet
- Securing nut - 12 Nm
- Spray jet
- Rear wiper cap
- Wiper arm
- Wiper blade
- Carefully pry off cap -4- using a small screwdriver. see scheme 20
- Carefully pull off spray jet -3- from connection line.
- Remove securing nut -2-.
- Remove wiper arm -5- from shaft drive.
Installation is the reverse order of removal while observing the following
- Switch rear windshield wiper on and off and let it run to park position.
- Set wiper arm -5- with wiper blade -6- onto shaft drive.
- Adjusting wiper blade at rear windshield, see «WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADE PARK POSITION, ADJUSTING»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#windshield-wiper-washer-system-except-cabriolet__windshield-wiper-blade-park-position-adjusting).
- Secure wiper arm with nut -4- (12 Nm).
- Operate rear windshield wiper.
- If necessary, adjust wiper arm once again and tighten securing nut. see scheme 20
Rear windshield wiper motor, removing and installing
The following list pertains to see scheme 21.
- Securing nut - 8 Nm
- Wiper motor
- Rubber seal
- Water hose

- Remove bottom trim of rear lid.
- Disconnect electrical harness connector.
- Carefully pull off water hose -4- from connection line.
- Remove securing nuts -1-.
- Remove wiper motor -2-. see scheme 21
Installation is the reverse order of removal, while observing the following
Note. Carefully insert rubber seal -3- into hole in rear window.
- Tighten securing nuts -1- (8 Nm).
- Water hose must audibly engage into spray jet connection. see scheme 21
- Carefully pry cap -3- off from wiper arm -1- -arrow-.
- Carefully pull spray jet -2- off from connection line.
Installation is the reverse order of removal, while observing the following
- Insert spray jet so that the spray opening points to the cutout at wiper arm.
- 3125A windshield washer aiming tool with 3125 / 5A needle
Work sequence
- Using 3125A special tool, adjust spray jet so that the water jet sprays onto the rear windshield above the wiper at the indicated locations. Dimension a = approx. 125 mm Dimension b = approx. 295 mm Dimension c = approx. 5 mm
Windshield wiper blade park position, adjusting
- Let wiper motor run into park position.
- Insert wiper blade at rear windshield and adjust as follows: Dimension a = 15 to 20 mm
Note. The dimension indicates the distance of the point of the wiper blade to lower edge of windshield.
- Tighten securing nut for wiper arm to 12 Nm.
- Operate wiper.
- If necessary, adjust wiper arm once again and tighten securing nut.
Windshield wiper blade, replacing
- Lift wiper arm off from rear windshield.
- Unclip wiper blade from wiper arm. See «REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#windshield-wiper-washer-system-except-cabriolet__rear-windshield-wiper-removing-and-installing) , -Item 6 -.

Windshield washer fluid reservoir, removing and installing
Note. The combined windshield washer fluid reservoir for front and rear windshield washer system is located in engine compartment at front left. See WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Headlight washer system spray jet inserts, removing and installing
- Pull up spray jet cover on bumper and carefully disengage mounts -arrow-.
- Unclip retaining clip and pull spray jet insert upward and out -arrows-.
- Remove front bumper

- Pull up spray jet cover on bumper and carefully disengage mounts -arrow-.
- Pull off water hose -3- (press release tab).
- Unscrew bolts -1- and -2- and remove spray jet.
