Lock carrier with attachments, assembly overview

Lock carrier with attachments, removing and installing

  1. Removing: Removing bumper, see «FRONT BUMPER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumpers-except-cabriolet) . Removing noise insulation, see «NOISE INSULATION, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-except-cabriolet__noise-insulation-assembly-overview) Disengaging Bowden cable for hood lock, see «HOOD CABLE, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids-except-cabriolet__hood-cable-assembly-overview) . Remove engine covers -2- and -3-. Unbolt air duct between lock carrier and air filter at lock carrier. Disconnect connectors. Draining coolant and detaching coolant lines, see «DETACHING UPPER COOLANT HOSE»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-except-cabriolet__detaching-upper-coolant-hose) and «DETACHING LOWER COOLANT HOSE»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-except-cabriolet) . Only unfasten condenser from radiator (do not detach lines) Attach condenser for air conditioner to front wheel e.g. with wire. See «COMPRESSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING FROM BRACKET»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#air-conditioning) . NOTE: Take care never to kink hose of hydraulic fluid cooler. Condenser must not be left hanging by its lines. Take care never to kink condenser lines. Detach hoses to hydraulic fluid cooler. Removing hydraulic fluid cooler, see «SEPARATING HYDRAULIC FLUID COOLER»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-except-cabriolet__separating-hydraulic-fluid-cooler) See «POWER STEERING»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/steering-column-switches/#steering) . In vehicles with automatic transmission, detach lines to ATF cooler. In vehicles with charge air cooling, pull off air duct hose. Detach seal for hood at front left and right at join to fenders at lock carrier -1-. Remove bolts -5-. A second mechanic is required to hold lock carrier -1-. Remove bolts -4-. Pull lock carrier forwards and off. Installing: Install in reverse order. Headlights must be re-adjusted. Adjusting: Lock carrier -1- must be centered between fenders. If fenders and hood are also to be replaced, first center these with each other.

Detaching upper coolant hose

  1. Pull out fastener of coolant hose connecting flange from upper part of radiator, remove connecting flange.

  1. Pull out fastener of coolant hose connecting flange from bottom of radiator, remove connecting flange.
  2. Bleed cooling system. See «COOLING SYSTEM, DRAINING AND FILLING»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-18l-4-cyl-5v-turbo-amb) (1.8L Turbo), or «COOLANT, DRAINING AND REFILLING»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-30l-6-cylinder-5v-avk) , or «COOLING SYSTEM, DRAINING AND FILLING WITH COOLANT»(ref-229838-S12242823052006042100000) .

Separating hydraulic fluid cooler

  1. Detach hoses from hydraulic line.
  2. Unscrew PAS hydraulic line from lock carrier.

Pulling off charge air cooling hose

  1. In vehicles with charge air cooling, loosen bolts on hose clamps -arrows-.
  2. Pull off hoses.

Lock carrier, assembly overview

Note. Do not remove noise insulation, just loosen front quick-release bolts, see NOISE INSULATION, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW . Bumper removed.

The following list pertains to see scheme 6.

  1. Lock carrier Service position Remove engine covers - 2 - and - 3 -. Unbolt air duct between lock carrier and air filter at lock carrier and remove air duct. Screw special tool 3369 into threaded hole on left side, see «INSERTING SPECIAL TOOL 3369»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-except-cabriolet__inserting-special-tool-3369) Screw in special tool 3369 on right side. Unscrew and remove securing bolts -5- on left and right. Unscrew and remove securing bolts -4- and pull lock carrier -1- forwards.   2. Left engine cover
  3. Right engine cover
  4. Combination bolt 10 Nm
  5. Combination bolt 50 Nm Screw in special tool 3369 for service position. NOTE: After installing lock carrier, check headlight setting and re-adjust if necessary.

Lock carrier, moving to service position

Note. Do not remove noise insulation, just loosen front quick-release bolts, see NOISE INSULATION, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW . Bumper removed.

Moving to service position

  1. Service position Remove engine covers -2- and -3-. Unbolt air duct between lock carrier and air filter at lock carrier and remove air duct. Screw special tool 3369 into threaded hole on left side, see «Inserting special tool 3369»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-except-cabriolet__inserting-special-tool-3369) Screw in special tool 3369 on right side. Unscrew and remove securing bolts -5- on left and right. Unscrew and remove securing bolts -4- and pull lock carrier -1- forwards. Inserting special tool 3369

  1. Screw in special tool 3369 on left and right as shown.
  2. Pull lock carrier forwards until rear hole in lock carrier covers front threaded hole of fender bar.

Securing lock carrier

  1. Secure lock carrier on left and right with bolts as shown.

Moving from service position back to normal operating position

Reverse steps to move back into normal position for vehicle operation.

Cowl panel trim, assembly overview

The following list pertains to see scheme 9.

  1. Cowl trim Windshield wiper arms removed. Plenum chamber cover removed. Remove securing pins -4-. Remove trim from retaining strip at windshield, bottom. Remove trim upward. When installing, make sure that the trim engages completely into retaining strip.

Transverse support (dome brace), removing and installing

  1. Remove bolts -2- and -3-.
  2. Remove transverse support -1- from mount -4-.

Front fender, assembly overview

Note. Bolts and washers are micro-encapsulated and must be replaced after being unscrewed or after fender is removed.

Disconnect connectors of side indicators. Remove bolts -2-, -3-, -4-, -5- and -6-.

Closure plate, removing and installing

  1. Front wheel removed.
  2. Wheel housing liner removed.
  3. Unscrew bolts -1- from expanding clip -3- and remove closure plate -2- from fender -4-.
  4. Tightening torque 2 Nm

Noise insulation, assembly overview

The following list pertains to see scheme 13.

  1. Quick-release bolt For service position of lock carrier, only loosen these quick-release bolts. 3x
  2. Front noise insulation

  4. Quick-release bolt 3x If rear noise insulation -5- is also installed, use longer quick-release bolts
  5. Rear noise insulation Only installed in special engine versions

  7. Mount for noise insulation Mark (recess) must face left side of vehicle.
