Windsheild Wiper Washer System - Cabriolet Audi A4 B6

Front windshield wiper system, servicing

CAUTIONBefore beginning repairs on the electrical system: Obtain the anti-theft radio security code. Switch the ignition off. Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap. After reconnecting vehicle battery, re-code and check operation of anti-theft radio. Also check operation of clock and power windows.

Note. Steps after reconnecting voltage supply. See BATTERY DISCONNECT PRECAUTIONS .

Scheme 1

  1. 80-200 Pry lever

Removing

  1. Remove rubber seal for plenum chamber cover.
  2. Remove plenum chamber cover -1- toward front -arrows-.

Removing wiper arms

  1. Switch windshield wipers on and off and let run to end position.
  2. Use screwdriver to pry off the two caps -3-.
  3. Loosen hex-nuts -4- by several turns.
  4. Loosen wiper arm -2- from wiper shaft by gently tilting.
  5. Remove hex nuts completely and remove wiper arm.
  6. Pull off securing clips -1- and remove cowl panel grill -5-.

Removing wiper frame with linkage and wiper motor

  1. Remove cover for E-box, in plenum chamber -arrows-.
  2. Pry off wiper linkage -2- from ball head using 80-200 Pry Lever.
  3. Remove crank from wiper motor.
  4. Unclip line/hose guides on wiper frame.
  5. Remove bolts -arrows- and remove wiper frame -1- completely.

Removing wiper motor from wiper frame

  1. Unscrew wiper motor from wiper frame -arrows-.

Installing

Installation is reverse of removal, paying attention to the following

  1. Bolt on wiper motor without crank to wiper frame to 9 Nm -arrows-.
  2. Connect connector to wiper motor.
  3. Install wiper motor to wiper frame in vehicle (8 Nm).
  4. Connect battery. Required steps. See .
  5. Operate wiper cycle button.
  6. Let wiper motor run to rest position.
  7. Align crank -1- to wiper frame and tighten nut -2- to 18 Nm. 2° NOTE: Illustration is shown with wiper frame removed.

TIGHTENING TORQUE

Wiper blade rest position, adjusting

  1. Let wiper motor run to rest position.
  2. Set wiper blades on front windshield and align as follows

WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADE AJUSTMENT POSITION

Note. The dimensions indicate the gap between the wiper blades to cowl grille of plenum chamber at lower edge of windshield.

  1. Tighten wiper arm securing nut to 21 Nm.
  2. Operate wiper cycle button.
  3. If necessary, realign wiper arms once again and tighten securing nuts.
  1. Lift off wiper arm from front windshield.
  2. Slide off retaining clip -2- from wiper arm -3- in direction of arrow.
  3. Remove wiper blade -1- downward from wiper arm.
  1. Insert joint piece of wiper arm into guide on wiper blade - arrow 1-; make sure that the joint piece is inserted completely into guide.
  2. Lock wiper blade by sliding on retaining clip -arrow 2-.

Front windshield washer system, servicing

CAUTIONBefore beginning repairs on the electrical system: Obtain the anti-theft radio security code. Switch the ignition off. Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap. After reconnecting vehicle battery, re-code and check operation of anti-theft radio. Also check operation of clock and power windows according to Repair Manual and/or Owner's Manual.

Removing upper washer fluid reservoir part

  1. Remove cover -1- in engine compartment (left side).
  2. Unbolt upper part of washer fluid reservoir -arrows-.
  3. Pull upper part of washer fluid reservoir out from bottom section of washer fluid reservoir.

Removing lower washer fluid reservoir part

  1. Remove left front wheel.
  2. Remove wheel housing liner, front left: See «FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment-cabriolet__front-wheel-housing-liner-assembly-overview) .
  3. Disconnect electrical harness connector -3-.
  4. Remove washer fluid hose -1- at washer fluid pump.
  5. Remove bolts -2-, -4- and -5- of lower part of washer fluid reservoir.
  6. Swivel lower part of washer fluid reservoir slightly toward rear.
  7. Disconnect electrical harness connectors -1- and -2- at front side of reservoir.
  8. Remove hose connection -3- (press release button).
  9. Remove washer fluid reservoir downward.

Installation is reverse of removal, paying attention to the following

  1. Tighten the bolts in order -2-, -4- and -5-. NOTE: Washer fluid hose must engage audibly into connection for washer fluid pump.

TIGHTENING TORQUE

  1. Switch ignition off and remove ignition key.
  2. Unclip base of spray jet from bottom of hood -arrow-.
  3. Disconnect washer fluid hose from unclipped spray jet.
  4. Disconnect electrical harness connector, if present.

Installation is reverse of removal, paying attention to the following

Note. Washer fluid hose must engage audibly into connection for spray jet.

Spray jets, adjusting

Special tools and equipment

  1. Windshield washer aiming tool T10127 equipped with 3125/5A replacement tips

Note. The adjustment dimensions indicate the required values for the driving vehicle, i.e. when standing still, the spray jets spray in a slightly offset manner.

  1. Mark the four points on windshield using a water soluble marker: Dimension a = 340 mm Dimension b = 500 mm Dimension c = 450 mm Dimension d = 280 mm
  2. Set the individual spray jets onto points using adjustment tool.

Headlight washer system, servicing

CAUTIONBefore beginning repairs on the electrical system: Obtain the anti-theft radio security code. Switch the ignition off. Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap. After reconnecting vehicle battery, re-code and check operation of anti-theft radio. Also check operation of clock and power windows according to Repair Manual and/or Owner's Manual.

Note. Steps after reconnecting voltage supply. See BATTERY DISCONNECT PRECAUTIONS .

  1. Pull up on spray jet covers at bumper and carefully disengage mounts -arrow-.
  2. Unclip retaining clip and pull spray jet insert upward -arrows-.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

  1. Pull spray jet covers upward at bumper and carefully disengage mounts -arrow-.
  2. Remove the respective headlight. See «HEADLIGHTS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/steering-column-switches/#lights-switches-exterior-cabriolet) (Halogen headlights), or «HEADLIGHTS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/steering-column-switches/#lights-switches-exterior-cabriolet) (Xenon headlights).
  3. Remove washer fluid hose -3- (press release button).
  4. Unscrew bolts -1- and -2- and remove spray jet. NOTE: Illustration is shown with bumper removed.

Installation is reverse of removal, paying attention to the following

  1. Install headlight. See «HEADLIGHTS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/steering-column-switches/#lights-switches-exterior-cabriolet) (Halogen headlights), or «HEADLIGHTS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/steering-column-switches/#lights-switches-exterior-cabriolet) (Xenon headlights).

TIGHTENING TORQUE: HEADLIGHT WASHER SPRAY JET

Note. The spray jets are already pre-adjusted when supplied by the manufacturer and must not be adjusted after installation.

Washer fluid reservoir, removing and installing

Note. The washer fluid reservoir supplies both the windshield and the headlight washer systems, and is located at the front left of the engine compartment. Removing and installing. See WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
