Hood, assembly overview
The following list pertains to (Scheme 12).
- Hood Removing Disconnect and unclip wiring and hoses for windshield washers. A second person is required to support and lift hood slightly. Disassemble gas-filled strut -5- from hood -1-. See «REMOVING AND INSTALLING GAS-FILLED STRUT»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids-cabriolet__removing-and-installing-gas-filled-strut) Unbolt nuts -4-. Remove hood. Installing: Install in reverse order of removal. Adjusting: Align hood -1- between the fenders. Adjust height of hood by adjustment of hood lock. See «REMOVING AND INSTALLING LOWER PART OF HOOD LOCK»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids-cabriolet__removing-and-installing-lower-part-of) Hood can be adjusted with respect to fenders by means of buffer stops. - Hood hinge Hood -1- must be removed or propped up safely. For removal unscrew bolts -3- and nuts -4-.
- Combi bolt 21 Nm
- Hex nut 21 Nm

Scheme 12
Removing and installing gas-filled strut
- Support hood or secure against falling closed.
- Use screwdriver to raise retaining springs slightly at either end of gas-filled strut and remove gas-filled strut.
- To install, press gas-filled strut onto ball stud and engage.
- Hollow section of gas-filled strut is installed at body end.
Releasing gas from gas-filled strut
- Clamp gas-filled strut in vice in area x = 50 mm. CAUTION: Only clamp the strut in this area. Otherwise there is risk of accident.
- Mask parting cut with a cloth to catch squirting oil. CAUTION: Goggles must be worn during sawing.
- Saw through cylinder of telescopic strut in first third of overall cylinder length - starting from reference edge on piston rod side.
Buffer stops for height adjustment
- Buffer stops -1- and -2- must rest gently on lock carrier with hood closed. NOTE: Buffer stops can be used for adjusting height of hood.
Removing radiator grille
- Remove bolts -1-.
- Tilt the decorative grille -2- slightly forward and pull it out upward from the bumper cover.
Removing and installing arrester
- To remove, unscrew cap nuts -2- and detach arrester -1-.
- Tighten cap nuts to 11 Nm upon installation.
Removing and installing lower part of hood lock
- Detach Bowden cable for hood. See «REMOVING AND INSTALLING HOOD LOCK CABLE»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids-cabriolet__removing-and-installing-hood-lock-cable) .
- Unscrew bolts -2- (4x). Tightening torque 14 Nm.
- Take out bottom part of lock -1-.
- To adjust hood, move lower section of lock up or down as required.
Hood seal
The following list pertains to see scheme 8.
- Lock carrier seal Center seal at lock carrier (note centering mark) and slide onto side of the flange of lock carrier and fender.
- Plenum chamber seal Lay molded piece -arrows- in place and press seal from the outside inward onto the flange from above.
- Hood
- Sealing channel Self-adhesive Adhesive surface must be free of dust and grease prior to assembly.
- Fenders
Lining for hood
- Unclip -2- clip.
- Remove cover -1-.
Removing and installing hood lock cable
The following list pertains to see scheme 10.
- Cable for hood Removing Raise vehicle. Removing front wheel housing liner. Remove storage compartment on driver's side. Unscrew bolt - 3 -. Detach retainer -4-. Unclip cable from lower part of hood lock and disengage eyelet -arrow A-. Remove cable -1- from previously opened retaining clips - 6 - and pull into wheel arch to lock carrier. Installing: Install in reverse order of removal. Move ball on cable of lower part of hood lock to installation position.

Convertible top box lid, assembly overview
The following list pertains to see scheme 11.
- Convertible top box lid seal Start assembly at the molded pieces. Do not install molded piece from above but outward along the flange. Install seal from the outside inward on both sides.
- Hydraulic cylinder
- Ball stud 21 Nm
- Convertible top box lid Remove. Detach the pushrods from the hydraulic cylinders -2- at the ball studs -3-. Unscrew the Hex bolts on the lid side of the hinge, see «REMOVING HINGE ON LID SIDE»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids-cabriolet__removing-hinge-on-lid-side) Remove the convertible top box lid.
- Combi bolt 8 Nm
- Hold-down device Insulation for convertible top box lid removed. Unscrew combi bolt -5- and pull out hold-down device to the side and remove.
- Hex bolt 21 Nm
- Puller tab Closure clip is aligned to the convertible top box lid latch. It must align with the latch housing on the inside. In the closed state, the latch bolt must have sufficient clearance in the latch cover aperture.

- Ball stud 21 Nm
Removing hinge on lid side
- Unscrew Hex bolts -2- from convertible top box lid -1-.
- Hinge -3-.
- Trim cap -4-.
- Trim cap -5- for Hex bolts
Removing hinge
Note. Unscrew only the two outer Hex bolts -2- when disassembling the convertible top box lid or the hinge. The hinge base plate must not be detached in the process.
- Hinge -1- removed on lid side.
- Remove caps from Hex bolts
- Unscrew Hex bolts -2- and remove hinge.
- On installation, tighten to 21 Nm.
Insulation for convertible top box lid
- Pull off clips -1- (17x) and remove insulation -2- from convertible top box lid -3-.
- Install buffer stop -4- with 2 mm gap to the contact surface.
Removing puller tab
- Insulation for convertible top box lid removed.
- Unscrew Hex bolts -1- and detach puller tab -3- from convertible top box lid.
- Windshield -2-.
Removing hold-down device
- Insulation for convertible top box lid removed.
- Unscrew bolt -1- and slide out hold-down device from convertible top box lid to the side and remove.
- Tighten bolt -1- to 8 Nm upon installation.
Seal for convertible top box lid
- Start assembly at the outside molded pieces.
- Do not slide molded piece in place from above but instead outward along the flange.
- Press the seal channel onto the body flange from above.
- Even out any excess length toward the vehicle center.
Convertible top box lid cover, assembly overview
The following list pertains to see scheme 18.
- Convertible top box lid cover Removing: Insulation for convertible top box lid removed Trim strip -2- removed. Unscrew the sheet metal screws (2x) for fastening the front side of the insulation from the inside and remove it from the convertible top box lid.
- Trim strip Insulation for convertible top box lid removed To remove, unscrew Hex nuts -5- and remove trim strip. Upon installation, observe tightening torque of 6.5 Nm, otherwise depressions will become visible at the trim strip fastening locations.

Rear lid, assembly overview

- Rear lid Removing Remove rear lid lining. Unplug the connectors and pull them out of the rear lid. Unscrew nuts for connection of both rear lid hinges to rear lid. Removing and installing striker wedge

- Unscrew bolts -1-. Tightening torque 21 Nm
- Installation is in reverse order of removal.
Adjusting boot lid
- Remove rear cross panel trim. See «REAR CROSS PANEL TRIM, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#interior-trim-except-cabriolet__rear-cross-panel-trim-assembly-overview) . NOTE: Gas-filled struts must be installed before adjusting new rear lid.
- Loosen bolts -1-, it must be possible to move striker wedge -2-.
- Carefully close rear lid until it is flush with side panel.
- Carefully open rear lid and tighten nuts -1- to 8 Nm.

- A = 4.5 mm + 0.5 mm
- B = 3.5 mm +/-0.5 mm
- C = 3.5 mm + 0.5 mm

Rear lock and handle mechanism, assembly overview
The following list pertains to see scheme 23.
- Rear lid lock To remove unclip operating rod from hinged bush and disengage. Unscrew Hex nuts -3- and remove rear lid lock.
- Hinged bushing After installing rear lid lock engage and secure operating rod.

- Lock cylinder Removing Detach connectors. Disengage Bowden cable -6- from lock cylinder. Unscrew combi bolt -7-. Turn lock cylinder 90°. Remove lock cylinder from handle mechanism.

- Engine Country (export version)
- Handle panel Removing: Rear lid trim removed. Lock cylinder removed. Unscrew Hex collar nuts -10-. Press in engaging hook -arrows-. Remove door handle panel.
- Hex collar nut 8 Nm
Removing and installing rear lid hinges
Note. The scales on the hinges facilitate rear lid hinge adjustment during adjustment of the rear lid.
- Undo nut -1-. Tightening torque 21 Nm.
- Unscrew nut -2-. Tightening torque 21 Nm.
- Lift rear lid off hinge.
- Height adjustment bolt -3-.
- Remove bolts -3- and -4-. Tightening torque 21 Nm.
- Only loosen center bolt -5-. Tightening torque 21 Nm.
- Remove hinge -6-.
- Installation is in reverse order of removal.
Note. When removing or installing gas-filled strut, push back the opened rear lid slightly without damaging components.
- Lift up both ends of retaining springs in turn using screwdriver and detach gas -1- filled strut.
Installing
- Clip in gas-filled strut at bottom first, then at top.
- The tube end of strut is installed on hood side.
Scheme 13
- Clamp gas-filled strut in vice in area x = 50 mm. WARNING: Only clamp the strut in this area. Otherwise there is risk of accident.
- Mask parting cut with a cloth to catch squirting oil. WARNING: Goggles must be worn during sawing.
- Saw through cylinder of telescopic strut in first third of overall cylinder length - starting from reference edge on piston rod side.
Rear lid seal, installing
- The joint -Item A- of the rear lid seal must be aligned with the ball socket of the left hinge.
- Press on seal.
Buffer stop, adjusting
- Open rear lid.
- Detach rubber cap.
- Screw in buffer stop as far as it will go.
- Gradually screw buffer stop out again.
- Press on rubber cap.
- If adjusted correctly, stop buffers must rest gently on rear lid sill when rear lid is closed.
Fuel tank flap, assembly overview
The following list pertains to see scheme 29.
- Combi bolt 1.5 Nm
- Fuel tank flap To remove, unscrew self-tapping screws -1- and detach fuel tank flap.
- Circlip Remove before disassembling fuel filler neck cover.
- Fuel filler neck cover Removing: Remove circlip -3-. Slightly remove cover from aperture. Pull out drain hose from lower guide piece and completely remove with cover from aperture.
- Installing: Prior to assembly coat cover with lubricant (e.g. soap solution). Slide drain hose into body aperture. Press cover completely into the aperture. Install circlip. Inserting drain hose into guide piece
- Cover -1
- Screws unscrewed from rear wheel housing liner in area of guide piece.
- Tap the wheel housing liner slightly backward and insert the drain hose -2- from the cover -1- into the guide piece eyelet -3- for the bumper.
