Lock carrier with attachments, assembly overview

The following list pertains to Fig.1 .

  1. Lock carrier Removing: Remove bumper. See «FRONT BUMPER»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumpers-cabriolet) Remove noise insulation, see «NOISE INSULATION, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-cabriolet__noise-insulation-assembly-overview) . Detach Bowden cable for hood lock from front. See «REMOVING AND INSTALLING HOOD LOCK CABLE»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids-cabriolet__removing-and-installing-hood-lock-cable) . Detach engine cover -2- and -3-. Unbolt air duct between lock carrier and air cleaner (air duct is bolted to lock carrier). Detach connectors. Drain coolant and disconnect coolant hoses. See «DISCONNECTING UPPER COOLANT HOSE»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-cabriolet__disconnecting-upper-coolant-hose) and «DISCONNECTING LOWER COOLANT HOSE»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-cabriolet__disconnecting-lower-coolant-hose) . Detach the condenser from the radiator only (do not disconnect any wires) Secure air conditioner condenser, e.g. to front wheel, using wire. See «COMPRESSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING FROM BRACKET»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#air-conditioning) . NOTE: Condenser must not be suspended by its lines. Condenser lines must not be bent or kinked. Detach hoses to hydraulic fluid cooler. Remove hydraulic fluid cooler. See «DISCONNECTING HYDRAULIC FLUID COOLER»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-cabriolet__disconnecting-hydraulic-fluid-cooler) NOTE: Line leading to hydraulic fluid cooler must not be bent or kinked. On models with an automatic transmission, disconnect lines from ATF cooler. On vehicles with a charge air cooler, pull off air guide hose. Detach left and right hood seals at joint between fender and lock carrier -1-. Unscrew bolts -5-. A second mechanic is required to hold lock carrier -1-. Unscrew bolts -4-. Pull off the lock carrier toward the front. Installing: Install in reverse order. Headlights must be readjusted. Adjusting: Lock carrier -1- must be centered between fenders. If the fenders and hood are also being replaced, center them in relation to one another before adjusting lock carrier.

  4. Combi bolt 10 Nm
  5. Combi bolt 50 Nm

Disconnecting upper coolant hose

  1. Pull out retainer for coolant hose connecting flange at the top of radiator and detach connecting flange.

Disconnecting lower coolant hose

  1. Pull out retainer for coolant hose connecting flange at bottom of radiator and detach connecting flange.
  2. Bleeding cooling system. See «COOLING SYSTEM, DRAINING AND FILLING»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-18l-4-cyl-5v-turbo-amb) (1.8L Turbo), or «COOLANT, DRAINING AND REFILLING»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-30l-6-cylinder-5v-avk) (3.0L V6), or «COOLING SYSTEM, DRAINING AND FILLING WITH COOLANT»(ref-229838-S12242823052006042100000) (4.2L V8).

Disconnecting hydraulic fluid cooler

  1. Detach hoses from hydraulic pipe.
  2. Unscrew hydraulic line for power steering at lock carrier.

Disconnecting charge air cooler hoses

  1. On vehicles with charge air cooling, loosen bolts on hose clamps -arrows-.
  2. Disconnect hoses.

Lock carrier, moving to service position

Note. Do not remove noise insulation, only loosen front quick-release bolts, see NOISE INSULATION, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

Bumper removed.

The following list pertains to Fig.6 .

  1. Lock carrier For service position Detach engine cover - 2 - and - 3 -. Unbolt and take out air duct between lock carrier and air cleaner (air duct is bolted to lock carrier). On the left-hand side, screw special tool 3369 into thread. See «INSERTING SPECIAL TOOL 3369»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-cabriolet__inserting-special-tool-3369) Screw in special tool 3369 on right side. Securing bolts -5- unscrew left and right. Remove securing bolts -4- and pull lock carrier -1- forward. Fasten lock carrier. See «SECURING LOCK CARRIER»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-cabriolet__securing-lock-carrier) .
  2. Left engine cover
  3. Right engine cover
  4. Combi bolt 10 Nm
  5. Combi bolt 50 Nm For service position screw in special tool 3369. NOTE: After installing lock carrier, check headlight settings and adjust, if necessary.

Inserting special tool 3369

  1. Screw in special tool 3369 on left and right as shown.
  2. Pull lock carrier forward until rear hole in lock carrier aligns with front threaded hole in fender flange.

Securing lock carrier

  1. Secure lock carrier in position on left and right using bolts as shown.

Cowl panel trim, removing and installing

The following list pertains to Fig.9 .

  1. Cowl panel trim Wiper arms removed. Plenum chamber cover removed. Detach the locking elements -4-. Pull trim from lower windshield securing strip. Remove the trim upward. When installing, make sure the trim completely engages the securing strip.

  5. Plenum chamber cover Pull off seal -6- and pull out cover from cowl panel trim
  6. Seal

Suspension cross brace (dome strut), removing and installing

  1. Remove bolts -2- and -3-.
  2. Remove the suspension cross brace -1- from the mount -4-.
  3. Suspension cross brace -5- Right Hand Drive only (not for USA/Canada).

Engine compartment covers

The following list pertains to Fig.11 .

  1. Right engine compartment cover
  2. Clamping bolt
  3. Brake line holder
  4. Left engine compartment cover
  5. Ball stud
  6. Coolant expansion tank
  7. Grommet
  8. Hex bolt 3 Nm
  9. Hex bolt 9 Nm
  10. Grommet

Front fender, assembly overview

Note. These bolts and washers are micro-encapsulated and must be replaced after loosening or after removing the fender.

The following list pertains to Fig.12 .

  1. Fenders Removing bumper, see «FRONT BUMPER»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumpers-cabriolet) Removing wheel housing liner, see «WHEEL HOUSING LINER»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment-cabriolet) Removing end panel , see «FENDER BRACKET»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-cabriolet__fender-bracket) . Detach headlights See «HEADLIGHTS, SERVICING - HALOGEN HEADLIGHTS»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/steering-column-switches/#lights-switches-exterior-cabriolet__headlights-servicing-halogen-headlights) or «HIGH INTENSITY GAS DISCHARGE (XENON) HEADLIGHTS»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/steering-column-switches/#lights-switches-exterior-cabriolet__headlights-servicing-high-intensity-gas) . Disconnect connectors for side turn signals. Unscrew bolts -2-, - 3 -, - 4 -, - 5 - and -6-.
  2. Combi bolt 7 Nm

Fender bracket

  1. Fender removed
  2. Unscrew bolts -2- and remove bracket -1-.
  3. On installation, tighten bolts to 10 Nm

Insulation for fender

  1. Used only on vehicles with 3.0L gasoline engine.
  2. Break at perforated strip for activated charcoal filter prior to installation.

Left fender seal

Note. Always replace seal after disassembly.

  1. Prior to assembly, the seal must be broken out at the perforated line.
  2. Pull protective film for adhesive off seal -1-, insert into fender and press firmly in place.
  3. Fender seal.

Right fender seal

Note. Always replace seal after disassembly. Both seals for the right hand side need only to be installed on vehicles with diesel engine.

  1. Pull protective film for adhesive off seal -1- and insert into fender.
  2. Fender seal -2-.
  3. Connection piece -3- for seals only for vehicles with diesel engine.

Removing and installing end panel

  1. Front wheel removed.
  2. Wheel housing removed.
  3. Remove bolts -1- from expanding clip -3- and remove end panel -2- from fender -4-.
  4. Tightening torque 2 Nm

Noise insulation, assembly overview

The following list pertains to Fig.18 .

  1. Quick release bolt To move lock carrier to service position, unscrew only these quick release bolts. 3x
  2. Front noise insulation
  3. Wheel spoiler
  4. Quick release bolt 3x If rear noise insulation - 5 - is also installed, longer quick release bolts must be used
  5. Rear noise insulation Only installed with certain engine versions.
  6. Quick release bolt 2x
  7. Noise insulation mounting Marking (recess) must point to left side of vehicle.
  8. Bolt 2x 7 Nm
