Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module -J527
| CAUTION | Before beginning repairs on the electrical system: Obtain the anti-theft radio security code. Switch the ignition off. Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap. After reconnecting vehicle battery, re-code and check operation of anti-theft radio. Also check operation of clock and power windows according to Repair Manual and/or Owner's Manual. |
Note. Further measures after reconnecting power supply: See PROCEDURE AFTER INTERRUPTION OF VOLTAGE SUPPLY (1.8L), or PROCEDURE FOLLOWING INTERRUPTION OF VOLTAGE SUPPLY (3.0L).
General description
Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module -J527- is part of the complete system "steering column switch module" (SCSM). For example, it receives its signals from the steering column switch.
Use VAS 5051 tester to check Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module -J527-.

Function description
Six function buttons are integrated into the steering wheel for better operation of the radio system. In addition, the multifunction steering wheel is electrically heated (optional).
The electronics integrated in the steering wheel take over the transmission of the six function buttons to CAN-bus and dimming of the function buttons. On vehicles with automatic transmission, 2 additional buttons can be installed for Tiptronic shifting function. The electronics in the steering wheel cannot be replaced individually, the entire steering wheel must be replaced in case of a fault.
The multi-function steering wheel is part of the complete system "switch module-steering column (SMSC) and transmits its data to the Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module -J527-.
