- Disconnect 2-pin EVAP canister purge regulator valve connector. EVAP canister purge regulator valve is located behind cover in right rear engine compartment. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between valve connector (component side) terminals. Resistance should be 22-30 ohms. If resistance is within specification, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, replace EVAP canister purge regulator valve. Erase DTC memory. See CLEARING CODES in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article.
- Check fuse for EVAP canister purge regulator valve. Replace if necessary. Connect VAG 1527B LED voltage tester between EVAP canister purge regulator valve connector (harness side) terminal No. 1 and ground. Operate starter motor. LED voltage tester should illuminate. If LED voltage tester does not illuminate, go to next step. If LED voltage tester illuminates, go to step 4) .
- Inspect wiring between valve connector (harness side) terminal No. 1 and fuse for an open circuit. Maximum resistance is one ohm. If resistance is within specification, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, repair open circuit as necessary. Erase DTC memory. See CLEARING CODES in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article.
- Check fuel pump relay operation. See SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Repair as necessary. If fuel pump relay is okay, go to next step. If fuel pump relay is not okay, erase DTC memory. See CLEARING CODES in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS INTRODUCTION article.
- VAG 1551 is necessary to continue diagnosing this code. VAG 1551 is used to check evaporative system. Follow test equipment manufacturer's instructions for VAG 1551 operation.
