Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Start the engine, and let it idle for 10 seconds.
- Check the CMP B NOISE in the DATA LIST with the HDS. Are 0 counts indicated? YES - Go to step 7 . NO - Go to step 5.
- Test-drive the vehicle for several minutes in the range of these recorded freeze data parameters: ENGINE SPEED VEHICLE SPEED
- Check the CMP B NOISE in the DATA LIST with the HDS. Are 0 counts indicated? YES - Go to step 7. NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CMP sensor and the ECM/PCM.
- Check for poor connections or loose terminals at these locations: CMP sensor ECM/PCM Engine ground Body ground Are the connections and terminals OK? YES - Go to step 8. NO - Repair the connections or the terminals, then go to step 11 .
- Check for damage to the front camshaft pulley ( «CMP»(ref-512332-S06989548102012103100000) pulse plate). Is the pulse plate damaged? YES - Replace the front camshaft pulley (CMP pulse plate); J35Z6 engine (see «CAMSHAFT REPLACEMENT»(ref-512349-S17271086612012103100000) ), J37A4 engine (see «CAMSHAFT REPLACEMENT»(ref-512350-S01030545602012103100000) ), then go to step 11 . NO - Go to step 9.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
- Replace the «CMP sensor»(ref-512332-S06989548102012103100000) .
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
- Reset the ECM/PCM with the HDS.
- Do the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure (see «ECM/PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-512362-S04299387872012103100000) ).
- Start the engine, and let it idle for 10 seconds.
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P0369 indicated? YES - Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CMP sensor and the ECM/PCM, then go to step 1 . NO - Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
