Force limiter mechanical/belt tension sensor, replacing

Important information

The driver's seat always has a mechanical force limiter.

The passenger seat always has a force limiter with a belt tension sensor.

Adjusting the seat position

Move the seat as far forward as possible.

Scheme 231

Remove the front seat side panel. See: Side panel front seat, replacing .

Insert a screwdriver on the inside of the end mounting. Remove the seat belt by pressing the catch inwards and pulling upwards.

On the passenger seat, remove

1. the connector
2. the screw
3. the force limiter with belt tensioner sensor.

On the driver's seat, remove

1. the screw
2. the mechanical force limiter.

Installing the force limiter/belt tension sensor

Install

1. the force limiter/sensor using the M10 screw. Tighten
2. the connector (passenger seat only)
3. the seat belt and end mounting
4. the side panel. See: «Side panel front seat, replacing»(ref-415318-S03601010242011081500000) .

Checking the seat belt function and supplementary restraint system

Carry out an inspection of the supplementary restraint system. See: Supplementary restraint system (SRS), inspection .

Remove each airbag / seat belt tensioner according to the instructions below.

Scheme 234

When temporarily storing the driver air bag module, it must be placed with the metal side (reverse) downwards in a well padded place to prevent damage to the surface material.

Note. For longer storage periods (unattended storage), airbag modules, inflatable curtain (IC) modules and other pyrotechnical components must be stored at a dedicated site in the original packaging.

Note. In the event of a fire at the storage site, the fire authorities must be informed about the presence of pyrotechnical components according to the relevant national statutory requirements.

Note. Loose Inflatable curtain (IC) modules must always be stored in Inflatable curtain (IC) racks, or in other approved packaging.

Note. Airbag modules must not be exposed to temperatures above 110°C.

Airbag modules and pyrotechnical components must be transported according the relevant national statutory requirements.

IC (inflatable curtain) module, replacing

Deployed inflatable curtain module

The following components must be check and replaced where necessary if the SRS system has deployed

1. Inflatable curtain module
2. B-panel cover
3. Headlining
4. The panels for the A, B and C-posts.

Preparation

Disconnect the battery lead.

See Battery, disconnecting .

Note. Do not fold or twist the inflatable curtain module during removal or installation. No components may be opened. Do not remove, slacken off or tighten any screws.

Note. The inflatable curtain module must be handled with both hands, with one hand around the gas generator.

Note. The inflatable curtain module must be kept level.

Note. Avoid twisting or bending the inflatable curtain module.

Note. The inflatable curtain module must be returned if it is "visible damaged".

Note. Do not position or install accessories or any other components in the area marked in the illustration. Failure to observe this instruction may cause the inflatable curtain module to fail.

Note. The hose clamp must not be opened under any circumstances. If the clamp is opened, it will not be possible to guarantee the safety of the joint. Leakage may result which would compromise the function.

Remove

1. clips D and G. CAUTION: First detach above the B-post panel.
2. the screw (3) and unhook the inflatable curtain module.

(6 and 7 are removed when removing the grab handle)

2. screws 1, 2, 8 and 9. Lift out the inflatable curtain module NOTE: Ground terminal (1) must always be replaced.

(4 and 5 are removed when removing the grab handle)

Storage and transport

Airbag modules / pyrotechnical seat belt tensioners must be stored and transported according to the relevant national statutory requirements.

If dismantling the contact reel it is very important that the catch function on the connector is released first. Disconnection should be done in line with the attachment so as not to damage it.

Note. The use of tools of any kind are not advised when disconnecting due to an increased risk of damage to the connector.

The contact is securely installed to make the contact attachment durable.
