CHECKING THE COMPONENT AND WIRING

Check the fuel pressure sensor connectors. Check for contact resistance and oxidation.

Remedy as necessary.

HINT: To avoid injury, disconnect the power supply to the engine cooling fan (FC) during fault-tracing.

Check the resistance of the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Take readings between terminals #1 and #2 on the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.

Check the signal cable. Check for a short-circuit to ground.

Take readings between

  1. Engine Control Module (ECM) #A42 (#A42) and engine temperature sensor #1.

Remedy as necessary.

CHECKING THE COMPONENTS AND WIRING

WARNINGThe engine cooling fan (FC) can also operate if the ignition is switched off when this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored.

HINT: To avoid injury, disconnect the power supply to the engine cooling fan (FC) during fault-tracing.

  1. Check the connector on the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. Check the resistance of the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Take readings between terminals #1 and #2 on the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Check signal cable for an open-circuit and short-circuit to supply voltage. Take readings between: Engine Control Module (ECM) #A42 (#A42) and engine temperature sensor #1. HINT: With the ignition on and engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor connector disconnected the voltage between terminal #1 and ground terminal should be approximately 5 V. Check the ground lead. Check for an open-circuit. Take readings between: Engine Control Module (ECM) #A12 (#A12) and engine temperature sensor #2. Remedy as necessary. Check the voltage supply to the fuel pump control module and fuel pump, including relay and fuse.

Check the ground connection to the fuel pump control module and fuel pump.

Check the connector for the fuel pump control module for contact resistance and oxidation.

Check the signal cable between the engine control module (ECM) and fuel pump control module. Check for open-circuits, short-circuiting to ground and short-circuiting to voltage.

Check the connectors and cable harnesses between the fuel pump control module and fuel pump for short circuits.

Remedy as necessary.

Hint: The DTC may be caused by damaged fuel pump, or by damaged fuel pump control module.

  1. Check the fuel pressure sensor connectors. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. Check the fuel pressure sensor between terminals #1 and #2 (sensor side). Check the resistance. Check signal cable for an open-circuit and short-circuit to supply voltage. Take readings between: Engine Control Module (ECM) #A41 (#A41) and fuel pressure sensor #2. Check the ground lead. Check for an open-circuit. Take readings between: Engine Control Module (ECM) #A15 (#A15) and fuel pressure sensor #1. Remedy as necessary.
