INSTALLATION
- INSTALL THROTTLE WITH MOTOR BODY ASSEMBLY Install a new gasket onto the intake manifold. Install the throttle with motor body with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts. Torque: 9 N*m (2 kgf*cm, 80 in.*lbf) HINT: Perform "Inspection After Repairs" after cleaning or replacing the throttle body assembly. Refer to «INITIALIZATION»(ref-554492-S04197663382013052000000) . Connect the water by-pass hose. Connect the water by-pass hose No. 2. Connect the throttle motor connector.
- INSTALL INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR Install the intake air connector with the 3 bolts. Torque: 8 N*m (2 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf) Tighten the 2 hose clamp bolts. Torque: 5 N*m (1 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf) Connect the vacuum hose. Connect the ventilation hose No. 2. Connect the vacuum hose. Engage the wire harness clamp. Connect the pressure sensor connector.
- CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL Torque: 5.4 N*m (5 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)
- ADD ENGINE COOLANT . Refer to «REPLACEMENT - Step 2»(ref-554443-S05027921222013052000000)
- INSPECT FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAK . Refer to «ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION - Step 1»(ref-554505-S28013813482013052000000)
- INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY NO. 1 (for 4WD and Pre-Runner)
- PERFORM INITIALIZATION NOTE: Perform the following procedure after replacing the ECM, throttle body assembly or any throttle body components or after cleaning the throttle body. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Wait at least 60 seconds and reconnect the cable. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position without operating the accelerator pedal. NOTE: If the accelerator pedal is operated, perform the above steps again. Connect the tester to the DLC3 and clear the DTCs. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-554492-S07547393792013052000000) . Perform the "Inspection After Repairs". Refer to «INITIALIZATION»(ref-554492-S04197663382013052000000) . Start the engine and check that the MIL is not illuminated and that the idle speed is within the specified range when the A/C is switched off after the engine is warmed up. Standard Idling Speed Transmission Idling Speed Manual Transmission 600 to 700 RPM (With the shift lever in neutral) Automatic Transmission 700 to 800 RPM (With the shift lever in N) NOTE: Be sure to perform this step with all accessories off. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Throttle Sensor Position. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and check that the value is 60% or more. Perform a road test and confirm that there are no abnormalities.

Note. Perform REGISTRATION (VIN registration) when replacing the ECM. Refer to REGISTRATION . Perform the Throttle body initialization when replacing the ECM See step 7 .

- REMOVE ECM BRACKET Remove the 3 screws, then remove the ECM bracket.
- REMOVE ECM BRACKET NO. Remove the 2 screws, then remove the ECM bracket No. 2.
- INSTALL ECM BRACKET NO. Torque: 3.0 N*m (2 kgf*cm, 28 in.*lbf)
- INSTALL ECM BRACKET Torque: 3.0 N*m (2 kgf*cm, 28 in.*lbf)
- INSTALL ECM Torque: 5.0 N*m (1 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf)

- INSTALL ACCELERATOR PEDAL ROD ASSEMBLY NOTE: Avoid any physical impact to the accelerator pedal assembly. Do not disassemble the accelerator pedal assembly. This accelerator pedal rod assembly does not require lubrication. Do not apply oil or other lubrication to the accelerator pedal rod assembly. If applied, the accelerator pedal rod assembly must be replaced. Install the accelerator pedal rod assembly with the 2 bolts. Torque: 5.0 N*m (1 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf) Connect the accelerator pedal rod assembly connector.
- CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL Torque: 5.4 N*m (5 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)

- INSPECT MASS AIR FLOW METER Check the mass air flow value. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / All Data / MAF. Blow air into the MAF meter and check that the MAF value fluctuates. - INSPECT MASS AIR FLOW METER Perform a visual check for any foreign matter on the platinum hot wire (heater) of the mass air flow meter shown in the illustration. OK There is no foreign matter. - INSPECT CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR Check the resistance. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals. Standard Tester Connection Specified Condition 1 (G+) - 2 (G-) 835 to 1, 00 ohms at COLD 1 (G+) - 2 (G-) 1, 60 to 1, 45 ohms at HOT HINT: Cold and Hot mean the temperature of the coils themselves. Cold is from -10 to 50°C (14 to 122°F) and Hot is from 50 to 100°C (122 to 212°F). If the result is not as specified, replace the camshaft position sensor.

- INSTALL CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR Apply a light coat of engine oil to the O-ring of the camshaft position sensor. Install the camshaft position sensor with the bolt. Torque: 8.5 N*m (7 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf) NOTE: Make sure that the O-ring is not cracked or jammed when installing. Connect the camshaft position sensor connector.

Standard Tester Connection Specified Condition 1 (E2) - 2 (THW) 2.32 to 2.59 kohms at 20°C (68°F) 1 (E2) - 2 (THW) 0.310 to 0.326 kohms at 80°C (176°F) NOTE: If checking the engine coolant temperature sensor in water, be careful not to allow water to intrude into the terminals. After checking, wipe the water off the engine coolant temperature sensor. If the result is not as specified, replace the engine coolant temperature sensor.

Disconnect the ventilation hose No. 3. Disconnect the VSV connector. Disengage the engine wire harness clamp. Disconnect the compressor magnetic clutch connector. (w/ AIR CONDITIONING) Disengage the wire harness clamp. Remove the bolt and harness clamp bracket. Disconnect the 3 connectors. Remove the nut shown in the illustration. Disconnect the engine wire harness from the relay block. Remove the 5 bolts and 2 nuts, then remove the intake manifold.
- REMOVE KNOCK CONTROL SENSOR Disconnect the knock control sensor connector. Remove the bolt, then remove the knock control sensor.

- INSPECT KNOCK SENSOR Check the resistance. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals. Standard Tester Connection Specified Condition 1 (Ground) - 2 (Output) 120 to 280 kohms at 20°C (68°F) If the result is not as specified, replace the knock sensor.

- INSTALL KNOCK CONTROL SENSOR Install the knock control sensor with the bolt. Torque: 20 N*m (04 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) NOTE: Make sure that the knock sensor is at the correct angle when installing. HINT: Perform "Inspection After Repairs" after replacing the knock sensor. Refer to «INITIALIZATION»(ref-554492-S04197663382013052000000) . Connect the knock control sensor connector.
- INSTALL INTAKE MANIFOLD Install a new gasket onto the intake manifold. Install the intake manifold with the 5 bolts and 2 nuts. Torque: 25 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf) Connect the engine wire harness to the relay block. Install the nut shown in the illustration. Torque: 10 N*m (02 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) Connect the 3 connectors. Install the harness clamp bracket with the bolt. Torque: 8.2 N*m (4 kgf*cm, 73 in.*lbf) Engage the wire harness clamp. Connect the compressor magnetic clutch connector. (w/ AIR CONDITIONING) Engage the engine wire harness clamp. Connect the VSV connector. Connect the ventilation hose No. 3. Connect the water by-pass hose No. 2. Install the clamp bracket with the bolt. Torque: 19 N*m (94 kgf*cm, 14 ft.*lbf) Connect the vacuum hose. Connect the fuel vapor feed hose to the VSV.
