ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
- INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY Check the operation. Warm up the engine. Turn the ignition switch off. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT System (Bank 1). Operate the OCV using the tester, then check the engine speed. Standard Tester Operation Specified Condition OCV OFF Normal engine speed OCV ON Rough idling engine stalls If the operation is not specified, check the camshaft timing oil control valve, wire harness and ECM.

- INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY Check the resistance. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals. Standard Tester Connection Specified Condition 1 (+B) - 2 (GND) 6.9 to 7.9 kohms at 20°C (68°F) If the result is not as specified, replace the camshaft timing oil control valve. Check the operation. Apply battery voltage across the terminals, and check that the spool valve operates. NOTE: Check that the spool valve is not stuck. HINT: The spool valve may not return if foreign objects are caught in it. This may cause subtle pressure leakage to the advance side, and a DTC may be set.

- INSPECT THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY Listen to the throttle control motor operating sounds. Turn the ignition switch to ON. When pressing the accelerator pedal, listen to the running sounds of the motor. Make sure no friction noises come from the motor. If friction noises exist, check the throttle body, wire harness and ECM. Inspect the throttle position sensor. Warm up the engine. Turn the ignition switch off. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Throttle Sensor Position. Depress the accelerator pedal. When the throttle valve is fully opened, check that the Throttle Position value is within the specified range. Standard 60 % or more NOTE: When checking the standard throttle valve opening percentage, the transmission should be in the neutral position. If the result is not as specified, check the throttle body, wire harness and ECM.

- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
- REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 4WD and Pre-Runner)
- DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT . Refer to «REPLACEMENT - Step 1»(/toyota/tacoma/ii-2011-2015/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system-2tr-fe-service-information)
- REMOVE INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR Disconnect the pressure sensor connector. Disengage the wire harness clamp. Disconnect the vacuum hose. Disconnect the No. 2 ventilation hose. Disconnect the vacuum hose. Loosen the 2 hose clamp bolts. Remove the 3 bolts, then remove the intake air connector.
- REMOVE THROTTLE WITH MOTOR BODY ASSEMBLY Disconnect the water by-pass hose. Disconnect the No. 2 water by-pass hose. Disconnect the throttle motor connector. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 nuts, then remove the throttle with motor body. Remove the gasket from the intake manifold.

- INSPECT THROTTLE WITH MOTOR BODY ASSEMBLY Check the resistance. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals. Standard Tester Connection Specified Condition 1(M-) - 2 (M+) 0.3 to 100 ohms at 20°C (68°F) 3 (E2) - 5 (VC) 2.0 to 4.0 kohms at 20°C (68°F) If the result is not as specified, replace the throttle body.
- INSPECT ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY Inspect the voltage. Warm up the engine. Turn the ignition switch off. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Accel Sensor Out No. 1 and Accel Sensor Out No. 2. Read the value displayed on the Techstream. Standard Voltage Accelerator Pedal Operations Accel Sensor Out No. 1 Accel Sensor Out No. 2 Released 0.5 to 1.1 V 1.2 to 2.0 V Depressed 2.6 to 4.5 V 3.4 to 5.0 V If the result is not as specified, check the accelerator pedal, wire harness and ECM.

- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
- REMOVE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ROD ASSEMBLY Disconnect the accelerator pedal rod assembly connector. Remove the 2 bolts, then remove the accelerator pedal rod assembly. NOTE: This accelerator pedal rod assembly does not require lubrication. Do not apply oil or other lubrication to the accelerator pedal rod assembly. If applied, the accelerator pedal rod assembly must be replaced.

- INSPECT ACCELERATOR PEDAL ROD ASSEMBLY Check the resistance. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals. Standard Tester Connection Specified Condition 5 (EP1) - 4 (VCP1) 1M ohms or higher 2 (EP2) - 1 (VCP2) 1M ohms or higher If the result is not as specified, replace the accelerator pedal.
