- Turn ignition off. Connect SSM. Start engine. Set SSM to function mode F21 to display pressure signal value from pressure sensor. If value is less than zero kPa, go to next step. If value is greater than zero kPa, go to step 9).
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using DVOM connected to chassis ground, backprobe ECM harness connector terminal No. 21. See appropriate wiring diagram in «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-26255) article. If voltage reading is 4.5 volts or greater, go to next step. If voltage reading is less than 4.5 volts, wiggle ECM harness connector. If voltage reading changes to greater than 4.5 volts, check for poor or faulty ECM harness connector terminals or circuit. If terminals and circuit are okay, replace ECM.
- Backprobe ECM harness connector terminal No. 26. If voltage reading is less than .2 volt, go to step 5). If voltage reading is .2 volt or greater, go to next step.
- Set SSM to function mode F20, to check pressure signal value sent from pressure sensor. If value changes to greater than zero kPa when wiggling harness and connector to ECM, check and repair poor terminal contact to ECM. If value does not change when wiggling harness connector to ECM, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect pressure sensor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between pressure sensor harness connector terminal No. 3 and chassis ground. If voltage reading is 4.5 volts or greater, go to next step. If voltage reading is less than 4.5 volts, check for open in circuit between ECM and pressure sensor harness connector.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Check resistance between ECM harness connector terminal No. 26 and pressure sensor harness connector terminal No. 2. If resistance is one ohm or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than one ohm, check for poor terminal contact or open in circuit between ECM and pressure sensor harness connector.
- Check resistance between ECM harness connector terminal No. 20 and pressure sensor harness connector terminal No. 1. If resistance is less than one ohm, go to next step. If resistance is one ohm or greater, check for poor terminal contact or open in circuit between ECM and pressure sensor harness connector.
- Check resistance between pressure sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 and chassis ground. If resistance is 500 k/ohms or greater, check for poor terminal contact in connector. If terminal contact is okay, replace pressure sensor. If resistance is less than 500 k/ohms, check for short in circuit between ECM and pressure sensor harness connector.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect pressure sensor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Set SSM to function mode F21. If scan tool reads greater than 140 kPa, check for short in circuit between ECM and pressure sensor harness connector. See appropriate wiring diagram in «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-26255) article. If scan tool reads a value of 140 kPa or less, replace pressure sensor.
