  1. Measure all valve clearances. < Ref. to «INSPECTION»(ref-273786-S40568208822007121100000), Valve Clearance. > NOTE: Record each valve clearance after it has been measured. see scheme 20: Measuring Valve Clearances
  2. Remove the camshaft. < Ref. to «REMOVAL»(ref-273786-S14915602922007121100000), Camshaft. >
  3. Remove the valve lifter.
  4. Measure the thickness of valve lifter with a micrometer. see scheme 21: Measuring Thickness Of Valve Lifter With Micrometer
  5. Select a valve lifter of suitable thickness using measured valve clearance and valve lifter thickness, by referring to the following table.   6. Inspect all valves for clearance again at this stage. If the valve clearance is not correct, repeat the procedure over again from the first step.
  7. After inspection, install the related parts in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Set the vehicle on a lift.
  2. Open the front hood fully, and then support with the hood stay.
  3. Collect the refrigerant from A/C system.
  4. Release the fuel pressure. Disconnect the fuel pump relay connector. see scheme 22: Locating Fuel Pump Relay Connector Start the engine, and run until it stalls. After the engine stalls, crank it for 5 seconds more. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  5. Remove the fuel filler cap.
  6. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  7. Remove the radiator from vehicle. < Ref. to «REMOVAL»(ref-273773-S32751383692007121100000), Radiator. >
  8. Remove the coolant filler tank. < Ref. to «REMOVAL»(ref-273773-S05723498852007121100000), Coolant Filler Tank. >
  9. Disconnect the A/C pressure hoses from A/C compressor. see scheme 23: Disconnecting A/C Pressure Hoses From A/C Compressor
  10. Remove the intercooler. < Ref. to «REMOVAL»(ref-273785-S22270227592007121100000), Intercooler. >
  11. Disconnect the following connectors and cable. Engine harness connector see scheme 24: Locating Engine Harness Connector Engine ground terminal see scheme 25: Identifying Engine Ground Terminal Engine harness connector see scheme 26: Locating Engine Harness Connector Generator connector, terminal and A/C compressor connectors see scheme 27: Identifying Generator Connector, Terminal And A/C Compressor Connectors Clutch release spring see scheme 28: Identifying Clutch Release Spring
  12. Disconnect the following hoses. Brake booster vacuum hose see scheme 29: Identifying Brake Booster Vacuum Hose Heater inlet outlet hose
  13. Remove the power steering pump from bracket. Loosen the lock bolt and slider bolt, and then remove the front side V-belt. < Ref. to «FRONT SIDE BELT»(ref-273786-S17568552662007121100000), REMOVAL, V-belt. > Disconnect the power steering switch connector. see scheme 30: Locating Power Steering Switch Connector Remove the pipe with bracket from intake manifold. see scheme 31: Locating Pipe With Bracket Remove the power steering pump from engine. see scheme 32: Identifying Power Steering Pump With Special Tool Remove the power steering tank from bracket by pulling it upward. see scheme 33: Locating Power Steering Tank Bracket Place the power steering pump on right side wheel apron. see scheme 34: Identifying Power Steering Pump On Wheel Apron
  14. Lift-up the vehicle.
  15. Remove the center exhaust pipe. < Ref. to «REMOVAL»(ref-273775-S11630436142007121100000), Center Exhaust Pipe. >
  16. Remove the nuts which hold the lower side of transmission to engine. see scheme 35: Locating Transmission To Engine Nuts
  17. Remove the nuts which install the front cushion rubber onto front crossmember. see scheme 36: Locating Front Cushion Rubber Nuts
  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. Separate the clutch release fork from release bearing. Remove the clutch operating cylinder from transmission. Remove the plug using a 10 mm hexagon wrench. see scheme 37: Removing Plug Screw the 6 mm dia. bolt into release fork shaft, and remove it. see scheme 38: Removing Clutch Release Fork Raise the release fork, and then unfasten the release bearing tabs to free release fork. NOTE: Step (4) is required to prevent interference with engine when removing the engine from transmission.
  20. Remove the pitching stopper. see scheme 39: Identifying Pitching Stopper
  21. Disconnect the fuel delivery hose (A), return hose (B) and evaporation hose (C). NOTE: Catch fuel from the hose into container. Disconnect the hose with its end wrapped with cloth to prevent fuel from splashing.   22. Support the engine with a lifting device and wire ropes. (Scheme 502): Identifying Lifting Device And Wire Ropes
  23. Support the transmission with a garage jack. CAUTION: Doing this is very important in order to facilitate re-installation and because transmission lowers under its own weight. see scheme 42: Supporting Transmission With Garage Jack CAUTION: Before removing the engine away from transmission, check to be sure no work has been overlooked.
  24. Separation of the engine and transmission Remove the starter. < Ref. to «REMOVAL»(ref-273752-S28619755232007121100000), Starter. > Remove the bolts which hold the right upper side of transmission to engine. (Scheme 503): Locating Transmission To Engine Bolts
  25. Remove the engine from vehicle. Slightly raise the engine. Raise the transmission with garage jack. Move the engine horizontally until the main-shaft is withdrawn from clutch cover. Slowly move the engine away from engine compartment. NOTE: Be careful not to damage adjacent parts or body panels with crank pulley, oil pressure gauge, etc.
  26. Remove the front cushion rubbers.

  1. Install the clutch release fork and bearing onto transmission. Remove the release bearing from clutch cover with flat-tip screwdriver. (Scheme 504): Removing Release Bearing From Clutch Cover With Flat-Tip Screwdriver Install the release bearing on transmission. Install the release fork into release bearing tab. (Scheme 505): Identifying Release Fork And Bearing Apply grease to the specified points. Spline NICHIMOLY 130 (Scheme 506): Identifying Spline Insert the release fork shaft into release fork. CAUTION: Make sure the cutout portion of release fork shaft contacts spring pin. (Scheme 507): Identifying Spring Pin, Release Fork And Shaft Tighten the plug. Tightening torque: 44 N.m (4.5 kgf-m, 33.5 ft-lb) (Scheme 508): Installing Plug
  2. Install the front cushion rubbers to engine. Tightening torque: 35 N.m (3.6 kgf-m, 25.8 ft-lb)
  3. Install the engine onto transmission. Position the engine in engine compartment, and then align it with the transmission. NOTE: Be careful not to damage the adjacent parts or body panels with crank pulley, oil pressure gauge, etc. Apply a small amount of grease to the splines of mainshaft.
  4. Tighten the bolts which hold the upper side of transmission to engine.
  5. Remove the lifting device and wire ropes. (Scheme 510): Identifying Lifting Device And Wire Ropes
  6. Remove the garage jack.
  7. Install the pitching stopper. Tightening torque: T1: 50 N.m (5.1 kgf-m, 36.9 ft-lb) T2: 58 N.m (5.9 kgf-m, 42.8 ft-lb) (Scheme 511): Identifying Pitching Stopper With Torque Specification
  8. Install the power steering pump on bracket. Install the power steering tank on bracket. (Scheme 512): Locating Power Steering Tank Bracket Install the power steering pump. Tightening torque: 20 N.m (2.0 kgf-m, 14.5 ft-lb) (Scheme 513): Identifying Power Steering Pump With Special Tool Install the power steering pipe bracket on intake manifold RH. (Scheme 514): Locating Pipe With Bracket Connect the power steering switch connector. (Scheme 515): Locating Power Steering Switch Connector Install the front side V-belt, and adjust it. < Ref. to «FRONT SIDE BELT»(ref-273786-S17568552662007121100000), INSTALLATION, V-belt. >
  9. Lift-up the vehicle.
  10. Tighten the nuts which hold the lower side of transmission to engine.
  11. Tighten the nuts which install the front cushion rubber onto crossmember. Tightening torque: 85 N.m (8.7 kgf-m, 62.7 ft-lb) NOTE: Make sure the front cushion rubber mounting bolts (A) and locator (B) are securely installed.   12. Install the center exhaust pipe. < Ref. to «INSTALLATION»(ref-273775-S31375131692007121100000), Center Exhaust Pipe. >
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Connect the following hoses: Fuel delivery hose, return hose and evaporation hose Heater inlet and outlet hoses Brake booster vacuum hose
  15. Connect the following connectors and terminals: Engine ground terminal Engine harness connectors Generator connector and terminal A/C compressor connectors
  16. Install the air intake system. Install the intercooler. < Ref. to «INSTALLATION»(ref-273785-S19674251522007121100000), Intercooler. > Install the air cleaner element and air cleaner upper cover. Install the engine harness connector bracket. Install the filler hose to air cleaner case.
  17. Install the A/C pressure hoses. NOTE: Use new O-rings. Tightening torque: 25 N.m (2.5 kgf-m, 18.4 ft-lb) (Scheme 518): Identifying A/C Pressure Hoses
  18. Install the radiator. < Ref. to «INSTALLATION»(ref-273773-S24100567802007121100000), Radiator. >
  19. Install the coolant filler tank. < Ref. to «INSTALLATION»(ref-273773-S29149298562007121100000), Coolant Filler Tank. >
  20. Install the window washer tank.
  21. Install the battery in the vehicle, and then connect the cables.
  22. Fill coolant. < Ref. to «FILLING OF ENGINE COOLANT»(ref-273773-S07599340642007121100000), REPLACEMENT, Engine Coolant. >
  23. Charge the A/C system with refrigerant. < Ref. to «PROCEDURE»(ref-273760-S23381968512007121100000), Refrigerant Charging Procedure. >
  24. Remove the front hood stay, and close the front hood.
  25. Take off the vehicle from lift arms.
