HINT
Using a Techstream to read the Data List allows the values or states of switches, sensors, actuators and other items to be read without removing any parts. This non-intrusive inspection can be very useful because intermittent conditions or signals may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Reading the Data List information early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time.
Note. In the table below, the values listed under "Normal Condition" are reference values. Do not depend solely on these reference values when deciding whether a part is faulty or not.
- READ DATA LIST Warm up the engine. Turn the ignition switch off. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. HINT: When DTC P0712 is output and the Techstream output is 150°C (302°F), there is a short circuit. When DTC P0713 is output and the Techstream output is -40°C (-40°F), there is an open circuit. Measure the resistance between terminal THO (TH01) and body ground. Temperature Displayed Malfunction -40°C (-40°F) Open circuit 150°C (302°F) or more Short circuit HINT: If a circuit related to the ATF temperature sensor becomes open, P0713 is immediately set (in 0.5 second). When P0713 is set, P0711 cannot be detected. It is not necessary to inspect the circuit when P0711 is set.

This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests.
- PERFORM ACTIVE TEST Warm up the engine. Turn the ignition switch off. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test. According to the display on the Techstream, perform the Active Test. HINT: While driving, the shift position can be forcibly changed with the Techstream. Comparing the shift position commanded by the Active Test with the actual shift position enables you to confirm the problem. Refer to «FAIL-SAFE CHART»(ref-388736-S36820093062011031100000) . HINT
Using a Techstream to perform Active Tests allows relays, VSVs, actuators and other items to be operated without removing any parts. This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests.
- PERFORM ACTIVE TEST Warm up the engine. Turn the ignition switch off. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test. According to the display on the Techstream, perform the Active Test. Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note Activate the Solenoid (SLT)* [Test Details] Operate the shift solenoid SLT and raise the line pressure. [Vehicle Condition] Vehicle stopped Engine idling HINT: OFF: Line pressure up (When the active test of "Activate the Solenoid (SLT)" is performed, the ECM commands the SLT solenoid to turn off). ON: No action (normal operation) ON/OFF - * : Activate the Solenoid (SLT) in the Active Test is performed to check the line pressure changes by connecting the SST to the automatic transaxle, which is used in the HYDRAULIC TEST. Refer to «HYDRAULIC TEST»(ref-388736-S35378552702011031100000) as well. HINT: The pressure values in Active Test and HYDRAULIC TEST are different from each other.

The ECM uses the signals from the throttle position sensor, turbine (input) speed sensor, vehicle speed sensor and crankshaft position sensor to monitor the engagement condition of the lock-up clutch.
Then the ECM compares the engagement condition of the lock-up clutch with the lock-up schedule in the ECM memory to detect mechanical problems of shift solenoid valve SLU, valve body and torque converter clutch.

- ACTIVE TEST HINT: Performing the Active Test using the Techstream allows components, such as the relay, VSV, and actuator, to be operated without removing any parts. Performing the Active Test as the first step of troubleshooting is one method of shortening labor time. It is possible to display the Data List during the Active Test. Warm up the engine. Turn the ignition switch off. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test. According to the display on the Techstream, perform the Active Test. Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note Activate the Lock Up [Test Details] Control shift solenoid SLU to set automatic transaxle to lock-up condition. [Vehicle Condition] Vehicle Speed: 36 mph (60 km/h) or more, and 4th gear ON/OFF Possible to check Lock-up operation. HINT: This test can be conducted when the vehicle speed is 60 km/h (36 mph) or less. This test can be conducted in 4th gear. Lightly depress the accelerator pedal and check that the engine speed does not change abruptly. HINT: When changing the accelerator pedal opening angle while driving, if the engine speed does not change, lock-up is on. Slowly, but not fully, release the accelerator pedal in order to decelerate. (Fully releasing the pedal will close the throttle valve and lock-up may be turned off.)
