ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
- INSPECT THROTTLE WITH MOTOR BODY ASSEMBLY Check the throttle control motor operating sounds. Turn the ignition switch ON. When pressing the accelerator pedal, check the operating sound of the running motor. Make sure that no friction noises emit from the motor. If friction noise exists, replace the throttle with motor body assembly. Check the throttle position sensor. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON. Turn the Techstream on. Select the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Throttle Sensor Position Depress the accelerator pedal. When the throttle valve is fully opened, check that the value of "Throttle Sensor Position" is within the specification. Standard throttle valve opening percentage 60% or more NOTE: When checking the standard throttle valve opening percentage, the shift lever should be in the neutral position. If the percentage is less than 60%, replace the throttle with motor body assembly.

- DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT . Refer to «REPLACEMENT - Step 1»(ref-511381-S27097587372012102600000)
- REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Remove the 2 nuts and the No. 1 engine cover.
- REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY WITH NO. 1 AIR CLEANER HOSE Disconnect the mass air flow meter connector. Disengage the wire harness clamp. Separate the No. 1 vacuum switching valve assembly. Disconnect the ventilation hose. Disengage the hose clamp and separate the No. 2 fuel vapor feed hose. Loosen the No. 1 air cleaner hose clamp, unlock the air cleaner assembly clamp and remove the air cleaner cap sub-assembly with No. 1 air cleaner hose. Remove the air cleaner filter element sub-assembly.
- REMOVE THROTTLE WITH MOTOR BODY ASSEMBLY Disconnect the No. 2 fuel vapor feed hose. Disconnect the No. 1 water by-pass hose. Disconnect the No. 2 water by-pass hose. Disconnect the throttle body connector. Remove the 4 bolts and the throttle with motor body assembly. Remove the gasket.

- INSPECT THROTTLE WITH MOTOR BODY ASSEMBLY Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Component without harness connected (Throttle with Motor Body Assembly) Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 (M-) - 2 (M+) 20°C (68°F) 0.3 to 100 ohms If the result is not as specified, replace the throttle with motor body assembly.
- INSPECT ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Accel Sensor Out No. 1, Accel Sensor Out No. 2. Read the value displayed on the tester. Accel Sensor Out No. 1 Standard Voltage Condition Specified Condition Accelerator pedal is released 0.5 to 1.1 V Accelerator pedal is depressed 2.6 to 4.5 V Accel Sensor Out No. 2 Standard Voltage Condition Specified Condition Accelerator pedal is released 1.2 to 2.0 V Accelerator pedal is depressed 3.4 to 5.0 V If the result is not as specified, check the accelerator pedal assembly, wire harness or ECM.

- REMOVE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY Disconnect the accelerator pedal assembly connector. Remove the 2 bolts and accelerator pedal assembly.
Note. Perform the mass air flow meter inspection in accordance with the procedures below. Only replace the mass air flow meter when any foreign matter is adhering to the sensor and both MAF values in the Data List (with the engine stopped) are not within the normal operating range.
- INSPECT MASS AIR FLOW METER Read the values using the Techstream (MAF). NOTE: Perform the inspection with the vehicle indoors and on a level surface. Perform the inspection of the mass air flow meter while it is installed into the air cleaner case (installed on the vehicle). During the test, do not use the exhaust air duct to perform suction on the exhaust pipe. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON (do not run the engine). Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / MAF. Wait 30 seconds, and read the values on the Techstream. Standard condition Tester Display Condition Standard Condition MAF Engine not running 30 seconds after ignition switch is turned ON Less than 0.48 gm/s If the result is not as specified, replace the mass air flow meter. If the result is within the specified range, inspect the mass air flow meter See step 1 .
