Removal & Installation

Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheels. Using channel-locking pliers, press piston into bore. Remove clip from brake caliper. Remove dust caps from guide pins. Remove guide pins. Lift brake caliper off brake disc and support it from suspension strut using a plastic tie. Remove brake pads. Reverse removal procedure to install pads. Pump brake pedal several times to position brake pads.

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheels. Using channel-locking pliers, retract brake pads. (Scheme 1) Disconnect brake hose from brake caliper. Plug openings. Remove 2 brake caliper bolts. (Scheme 2) Remove brake caliper.
  2. To install caliper, reverse removal procedure. Apply Loctite to 2 caliper bolts. Tighten bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-5238-S24901807662000081000000). Bleed system. See «BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM»(ref-5238-S08930567952000081000000). Pump brake pedal several times to position brake pads.
  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove adjustor adjuster wheels. Loosen locating stud and retaining bolt. Using pliers, retract brake pads. Remove caliper retaining bolts and caliper assembly. Wire caliper to strut. Remove locating stud, retaining bolt and brake rotor.
  2. Ensure mating surfaces of hub and rotor are clean and free of burrs. Ensure rotor runout does not exceed specification. See «DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-5238-S28673088362000081000000) . To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-5238-S24901807662000081000000) . Pump brake pedal several times to position brake pads.

Note. Resurface or replace rotors each time new brake pads are installed.

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheels. Compress pistons using channel-locking pliers. Remove pins, keeping lock spring. Remove brake pads.
  2. Wire-brush guide pins and mating surfaces of caliper and brake pads. To install pads, reverse removal procedure.

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheels. Depress brake pistons with channel-locking pliers. Disconnect brake line connection from brake caliper. Plug all openings. Remove 2 brake caliper retaining bolts and lift off brake caliper. (Scheme 3)
  2. To install caliper, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-5238-S24901807662000081000000). Bleed system. See «BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM»(ref-5238-S08930567952000081000000).
  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheels. Compress brake pistons using channel-locking pliers. Remove 2 brake caliper bolts. Disconnect brake line from retaining clip and hang caliper aside. Release parking brake adjustment. Remove brake rotor retaining bolt. Remove brake rotor.
  2. Ensure mating surfaces of hub and rotor are clean and free of burrs. Ensure rotor runout does not exceed specification. See «DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-5238-S28673088362000081000000) . To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-5238-S24901807662000081000000) . Depress brake pedal to position brake pads.
  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel. Remove rotor and caliper. Wire caliper aside. See «REAR BRAKE ROTOR»(ref-5238-S03458891132000081000000) and «REAR BRAKE CALIPER»(ref-5238-S23508430522000081000000) . Disconnect ABS sensor connector. Remove 4 wheel hub bolts. Separate wheel hub and backing plate. Allow backing plate and parking brake assembly to hang by cable.
  2. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-5238-S24901807662000081000000) .
