Function: ignition system (TU3A) Peugeot Partner I facelift

Power unit ~254 words

Flow chart

(1) engine speed sensor (1313)

(2) injection ECU (1320)

(3) ignition coil unit with phase detector (1191)

Ignition coil unit with phase detector (1191)

The coils are attached to a compact box located and fastened on the cylinder head

Twin static type ignition: 2 sparks occur, one at the end of the compression stroke, the other during the exhaust phase (wasted spark)

The "DEPHIA" Injection Ignition Phase Detection system incorporated in the compact coil unit enables the injection ECU to determine the position of piston N°1; on ignition, when cylinder 1 is compressed cylinder 4 is in the exhaust phase and vice versa; on the compressed cylinder, the spark between the two electrodes will be more difficult to produce, therefore a higher voltage will be required; by comparing the voltage on cylinder 1 and cylinder 4, the injection ECU deduces which cylinder is compressed (top dead centre (TDC))

NoteThis system replaces the camshaft position sensor

Sparking plugs

Special features

  • Flat seat ignition plugs
  • Tightening torque: 2,5 daNm

Injection ECU (1320)

The coil command and power stages are incorporated into the ECU (there is no external ignition module)

The ECU supplies each of the 2 coil primaries

The synchronisation of ignition is achieved by the phase detector incorporated in the compact coil unit

On board diagnostic system (EOBD)

NoteEOBD: European On Board Diagnosis, diagnosis of anti-pollution equipment

The faults recorded in the injection ECU linked with the ignition system switch on the diagnostic warning lamp on the instrument panel
