The yaw rate sensor makes available the current yaw rate, rotation rate and the current lateral acceleration of the vehicle to the driving-dynamics control, ESP. This sensor is only fitted in conjunction with a driving-dynamics control (ABS/ESP).

Functional Description
Driving-Dynamics Control (ESP)
The ESP actively intervenes in the cornering behaviour of the vehicle by means of the controlled braking of individual wheels, e.g. the inside curve rear wheel during understeering or the outside curve front wheel during oversteering, thus achieving a course-correcting intervention. For this purpose, the information regarding the yaw rate (rotation rate) and the lateral acceleration registered by the YRS as well as the steering angle registered in the CIM are transmitted to the ABS/ESP via the HSCAN bus.
Diagnosis
The yaw rate sensor has no self-diagnosis. It is monitored via the ABS/ESP control unit, i.e. all YRS faults are communicated to the ABS/ESP control unit via the HSCAN bus. Storage of the relevant fault codes is performed in the ABS/ESP control unit.
