The central door locking system in the Vectra-C is shared between several control units. Communication between the various control units takes place via the low-speed CAN bus.

Central Door Locking System Functions

Relevant control units

  • Body control module (BCM)

The BCM is the main control unit responsible for the central door locking system functions. It controls the rear doors and the tank flap directly via conventional wiring. The BCM recognises actuation of the driver's door lock or the switches in the doors and generates a locking or unlocking command based on these. The switch for tailgate unlocking is read in by the BCM and transmitted to the rear electronics module (REC) via the CAN bus.

  • Steering column electronics module (CIM)

The CIM establishes communication between the radio remote control and the vehicle. It receives the relevant radio remote control signal and transmits it to the appropriate control units as a CAN bus message.

  • Driver's door electronics module (DDM)

The DDM receives the required request from the BCM via the CAN bus and directly actuates the servo motors in the driver's door. The lock/unlock switch signals and the lock cylinder contacts in the driver's door are read in and transmitted via the CAN bus.

  • Passenger's door electronics module (PDM)

Corresponds to the driver's door electronics module (DDM)

  • Rear electronics module (REC)

The REC is responsible for actuation of the tailgate lock. The signal request is transmitted from the BCM via the CAN bus.

  • Display (DIS)

The display acts as the interface between the low-speed and mid-speed CAN busses in this function.

Central Door Locking System Components

  • Door lock

The door locks in the front and rear doors are each equipped with two servo motors. Three positions are possible:

Locked

Unlocked

Anti-theft protection

  • Door contact switch

There are switches integrated in the door locks which recognise when a door has not been closed completely. These switches are monitored by the various door electronics modules or by the BCM. If the anti-theft warning system is installed, all switches are read in by the BCM. In this case, the relevant door electronics module receives the status via a CAN message.

  • Sensor – lock from inside

The "Lock from inside" sensor is only fitted in the driver's door and is connected to the door-locking button on the inside of the door and the DDM. The sensor transmits information regarding the status of the door lock or signals the driver's lock or unlock request. The sensor is ignored when the vehicle anti-theft protection is activated. The status is transmitted to the BCM via the CAN bus.

  • Sensor – lock from outside

The "Lock from outside" sensor is mechanically connected to the lock cylinder and is only fitted in the driver's door. It is integrated in the door lock and distinguishes between the following key movements in the lock cylinder:

One movement to the left or right

Several movements to the left or right

Long movement to the left or right

  • Central door locking system switch, lock/unlock

The switches are installed in the front door panelling and serve to unlock or lock the doors from the inside. When the vehicle is the ’anti-theft protected mode’ (via radio remote control or key), the switches are ignored.

  • Switch – unlock tailgate

A switch is fitted in the luggage compartment for opening, which is read in by the BCM. When the vehicle is still locked, the tailgate unlocking must be actuated by the radio remote control for the switch to be enabled.

  • Radio remote control

The key with radio remote control features the following functions via three control buttons:

Unlock, lock, and unlock tailgate separately.

It distinguishes between three modes of operation:

Button pressed once, button pressed two or several times and button pressed and held

  • Tailgate switch

Two tailgate switches are used, one for the luggage compartment illumination and the other for the anti-theft warning system.

  • Crash sensor

The impact sensor is installed in the BCM. A condition is that the ignition key must be inserted in the ignition lock. In the case of an accident the central door locking system is unlocked and cannot be locked again for the following 30 seconds.
