Note:
With Test Step 05 INIT. RON COGING the actual octane number resistance is displayed with the ignition ON.
With Test Step 06 ACT. RON CODING the actual octane number resistance is displayed and monitored and compared by the control unit as a matter of routine with the engine running. If the control unit now ascertains a deviation between the values in Test Steps 05 and 06, Trouble Code 36 is stored in the fault memory and the engine telltale in the control unit actuated. Fault recognition when connecting an incorrect octane number plug is not possible before the ignition is switched on or the engine started.
Trouble-shooting: Nominal Value: Cause of Trouble:
Before trouble-shooting ascertain if the correct octane number plug is installed for the appropriate
vehicle type. (See list on next page)
Ignition ON
· Remove octane number plug · Lead interruptions from octane number plug X 15 (brbl) to control unit
Measure voltage at octane K 84/Ter. 21 or from octane number
number plug X 15 5 V plug X 15 (brrd) to control unit
K 84/Ter. 13
· Short circuit of lead from
octane number plug (brrd) to control unit K 84/Ter. 21
· Check resistance of octane number plug X 15 See table
below
If nominal values attained · Control unit defective
