The new radio-integrated Siemens navigation systems NCDR 2011 and NCDC 2013 are optionally available for the Meriva. Both systems have a fast 32-bit RISC processor. Alternative routes are suggested in accordance with the RDS/TMC traffic information. The navigation CD can be removed and replaced with an audio CD after the planned route has been entered.
The navigation system consists of the following components:
- Radio with:
- Graphical Information Display (GID) on the instrument panel
- Combination roof antenna (GPS, radio, GSM) (Global System for Mobile Communication)
- Navigation CD
The navigation system provides a visual representation of driving instructions in the graphical information display. Navigation information is also conveyed to the driver via the front loudspeaker.
With the NCDR 2011 model the navigation system can be used and an audio CD listened to at the same time. If the vehicle leaves the area that has been read in as a result of the route that has been entered, the system requests insertion of the navigation CD. Once the navigation CD has been inserted, it can be replaced with the audio CD again.
The anti-theft protection in the new navigation system basically differs from the known principle for audio equipment. Each radio unit and the CD changer previously had their own codes, which had to be entered after reconnecting the power supply in order to make the units operational again.
In the new navigation system the principle used by the immobilizer has been utilised:
The graphical information display and the control unit are linked together at the end of the band and the anti-theft protection is therefore activated. This means that each component knows about the other navigation components in the vehicle concerned. The overall system only works in this state. If a navigation component in a vehicle is misused by replacing it with a navigation component from another vehicle, the system no longer works.
The NCDR 2011 and NCDC 2013 units have a Graphical Information Display (GID).
The following are displayed:
- Time
- Outside temperature
- Radio and date
- Navigation
The visible display size is 85 x 30 mm.
