General Description
The engine's electrical system is served by a starter motor, alternator and battery. The ignition system is utilised by the electrical system to initiate the operation of the main electrical components. The body control module (BCM) and engine control unit (ECU) are used to convey information between the engine's electrical components via the CAN bus.
The alternator is secured to the cylinder block on the intake side by means of three bolts. The starter motor is secured to the rear flange of the cylinder block by means of two bolts.
Battery
The battery is a "maintenance free" sealed unit and is located at the rear of the engine compartment, on the passenger side. The battery is clamped on a dedicated tray below the engine compartment fuse box.
Battery - Remote Terminals for Jump Starting
The battery on the Opel GT is not easily accessible for operations such as jump starting. Because of this, the vehicle has been provided with supplementary remote terminals.
The remote positive terminal (2) is located adjacent to the engine fuse box and is accessible by opening the red plastic protection cap, which is hinged to the fuse box. The remote negative terminal (1) is located on the cylinder block and can be identified by “GND (-)” on the terminal.
The second positive terminal, located under the fuse box lid, is not fuse protected and should not be used for any service purpose.
