Fluid Pressure Check Opel Campo I

Power Steering 2 illustrations ~210 words

Inspect

Fluid level in reservoir and drive belt for condition and correct tension - see operation "Belt Tension Power Steering Pump Check and Adjust" in group J.

Install

With engine stationary disconnect pressure hose at pump and connect Power Steering Tester KM-354-B comprising pressure gauge (1) shut-off valve (2) Adapters KM-794 (3).

After connecting tester top-up fluid and bleed hydraulic system - see operation "Hydraulic System Bleed".

Caution

Do not close shut-off valve for more than five seconds at a time.

Inspect

Fully close shut-off valve record highest pressure at engine speed of 1500 rpm and open shut-off valve.

Pump is within specification if recorded pressure is within 75 to 83 bar (1088 to 1204 psi).

If recorded pressure higher pump valve is defective.

If recorded pressure is lower rotating parts in pump are defective.

Inspect

I f pump pressures are within specification leave shut-off valve (2) open and turn steering wheel fully in both directions.

Record highest pressures then compare with maximum pressure with shut-off valve closed.

If pump pressures cannot be attained on each full lock it indicates gear is leaking internally.

Stop engine and remove power steering tester.

Install

Pressure hose to pump - top-up fluid in reservoir - see operation "Hydraulic System Top-up".
