STANDARD FLOW OF DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLESHOOTING

HOW TO CONNECT THE SCAN TOOL (M.U.T.-III)

Required Special Tools

  1. MB991958: Scan Tool (M.U.T.-III Sub Assembly) MB991824: Vehicle Communication Interface (V.C.I.) MB991827: M.U.T.-III USB Cable MB991910: M.U.T.-III Main Harness A (Vehicles with CAN communication system)
CAUTIONTo prevent damage to scan tool MB991958, always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool MB991958.

  1. Ensure that the ignition switch is at the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
  2. Start up the personal computer.
  3. Connect special tool MB991827 to special tool MB991824 and the personal computer.
  4. Connect special tool MB991910 to special tool MB991824.
  5. Connect special tool MB991910 to the data link connector.
  6. Turn the power switch of special tool MB991824 to the "ON" position. NOTE: When special tool MB991824 is energized, special tool MB991824 indicator light will be illuminated in a green color.
  7. Start the M.U.T.-III system on the personal computer. NOTE: Disconnecting scan tool MB991958 is the reverse of the connecting sequence, making sure that the ignition switch is at the "LOCK" (OFF) position.

HOW TO READ AND ERASE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES

CAUTIONTo prevent damage to scan tool MB991958, always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool MB991958.

Note. If the battery voltage is low, diagnostic trouble codes will not be set. Check the battery if scan tool MB991958 does not display.

  1. Connect scan tool MB991958 to the data link connector.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
  3. Select "System select" from the start-up screen.
  4. Select "From 2006 MY" of "Model Year." When the "Vehicle Information" is displayed, check the contents.
  5. Select "WCM" from "System List", and press the "OK" button. NOTE: When the "Loading Option Setup" list is displayed, check the applicable item.
  6. Select "Diagnostic Trouble Code." to read the DTC.
  7. If a DTC is set, it is shown.
  8. Choose "Erase DTCs" to erase the DTC.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART

CAUTIONDuring diagnosis, a DTC associated with other system may be set when the ignition switch is turned on with connector(s) disconnected. On completion, confirm all systems for DTC(s). If DTC(s) are set, erase them all.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART

DTC SET CONDITION

WCM checks that the engine control module data has been received via the CAN bus lines, and if not, sets the DTC No. B1731.

  1. STEP 1. Using scan tool MB991958, diagnose the CAN bus line. CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool (MB991958), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (MB991958). Connect scan tool MB991958 to the data link connector. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position. Diagnose the CAN bus line. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position. Q: Is the CAN bus line found to be normal? YES: Go to Step 2. NO: Repair the CAN bus line. (Refer to «DIAGNOSIS»(ref-592553-S00268715102014011000000) ).
  2. STEP 2. Using scan tool MB991958, read the engine control module diagnostic trouble code. Check again if the DTC is set to the engine control module. Q: Is the DTC set? YES: Troubleshoot the MFI system (Refer to «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART»(ref-592554-S34172480472014011000000) < 2.0L Engine Non-turbo > or «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART»(ref-592555-S21340300262014011000000) < 2.0L Engine Turbo > or «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART»(ref-592556-S26682004632014011000000) < 2.4L Engine >). NO: Go to Step 3.
  3. STEP 3. Using scan tool MB991958, read the other system diagnostic trouble code. Check if DTC U0100 is set to ETACS-ECU. Q: Is the DTC set? YES: Go to Step 5 . NO: Go to Step 4.
  4. STEP 4. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code. Check again if the DTC is set to the WCM. Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF) position to "ON" position. Check if DTC is set. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position. Q: Is the DTC set? YES: Replace WCM and register the ID codes (Refer to «ID CODES REGISTRATION PROCEDURE»(ref-592550-S17773111812014011000000) ). After registering the ID codes, go to Step 6 . NO: The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to «HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS»(ref-592551-S36408212772014011000000) ).
  5. STEP 5. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code. Check again if the DTC is set to the WCM. Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF) position to "ON" position. Check if DTC is set. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position. Q: Is the DTC set? YES: Replace the engine control module and record the VIN (Refer to «HOW TO PERFORM VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (VIN) WRITING»(ref-592551-S08939969392014011000000) ). Then go to Step 6. NO: The procedure is complete.
  6. STEP 6. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code. Check again if the DTC is set to the WCM. Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF) position to "ON" position. Check if DTC is set. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position. Q: Is the DTC set? YES: Replace the ETACS-ECU. NO: The procedure is complete.

WCM sets DTC B1761 when no VIN is recorded in it.

  1. STEP 1. Using scan tool MB991958, diagnose the CAN bus line. CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool (MB991958), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (MB991958). Connect scan tool MB991958 to the data link connector. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position. Diagnose the CAN bus line. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position. Q: Is the CAN bus line found to be normal? YES: Go to Step 2. NO: Repair the CAN bus line. (Refer to «DIAGNOSIS»(ref-592553-S00268715102014011000000) ).
  2. STEP 2. Register the VIN and recheck the diagnostic trouble code. Register VIN in WCM (Refer to «HOW TO PERFORM VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (VIN) WRITING»(ref-592551-S08939969392014011000000) ) and recheck if the DTC is set. Turn the ignition switch from the "LOCK" (OFF) position to the "ON" position. Check if DTC is set. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position. Q: Is the DTC set? YES: Replace WCM and register the ID codes (Refer to «ID CODES REGISTRATION PROCEDURE»(ref-592550-S17773111812014011000000) ). NO: The procedure is complete.

CAUTIONWhen replacing the ECU, always check that the communication circuit is normal.

The door locking/unlocking code is automatically updated every time the doors are locked (rolling code). WCM stores DTC B1A08, B1A09, B1A0A, B1A0B, B1A0C, B1A0D, B1A0E, or B1A0F when it receives wrong signal (rolling code out of synchronization) from the transmitter.

  1. STEP 1. Synchronize the rolling code and recheck the diagnostic trouble code. Synchronize the rolling code. Push the lock button or unlock button of transmitter twice or more. If the keyless operation does not resume by the procedure above, register the key again (Refer to «CUSTOMIZATION FUNCTION»(ref-592550-S28751554082014011000000) ). Recheck if the diagnostic trouble code is set. Push the lock button or unlock button of transmitter. Check if the diagnostic trouble code is set. Q: Is the DTC set? YES: Go to Step 2. NO: The diagnosis is complete.
  2. STEP 2. Check whether the diagnostic trouble code is reset. Replace the transmitter by which the diagnostic trouble code is set with a new one, register the key (Refer to «INSPECTION PROCEDURE 5: KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK.»(ref-592550-S35212663662014011000000) ), and recheck if the diagnostic trouble code is set. Push the lock button or unlock button of transmitter. Check if the diagnostic trouble code is set. Q: Is the DTC set? YES: Replace WCM and register the ID codes (Refer to «ID CODES REGISTRATION PROCEDURE»(ref-592550-S17773111812014011000000) ). NO: The diagnosis is complete.

CAUTIONWhen replacing the ECU, always check that the communication circuit is normal.

WCM sets DTC B1A10, B1A11, B1A12, B1A13, B1A14, B1A15, B1A16, or B1A17 when it receives low battery voltage signal from the transmitter.

  1. STEP 1. Replace the battery in the transmitter and recheck the diagnostic trouble code. Replace the battery in the transmitter by which the DTC is set with a new one, and recheck if the DTC is set (Refer to «TRANSMITTER»(ref-592550-S23545289962014011000000) ). Replace the battery in the transmitter by which the DTC is set. Use the transmitter to lock/unlock the doors. Check if the DTC is set. Q: Is the DTC set? YES: Go to Step 2. NO: The diagnosis is complete (Discharged battery).
  2. STEP 2. Replace the transmitter and recheck the diagnostic trouble code. Replace the transmitter by which the DTC is set with a new one, register the key ID and the keyless entry secret code (Refer to «ID CODES REGISTRATION PROCEDURE»(ref-592550-S17773111812014011000000) ), and recheck if the DTC is set. Use the transmitter to lock/unlock the doors. Check if the DTC is set. Q: Is the DTC set? YES: Replace WCM and register the ID codes (Refer to «ID CODES REGISTRATION PROCEDURE»(ref-592550-S17773111812014011000000) ). NO: The diagnosis is complete.

DTC B1A24: Key ID Not Registered

CAUTIONWhen the DTC B1A24 is set, be sure to diagnose the CAN bus line. When replacing the ECU, always check that the communication circuit is normal.

WCM sets DTC B1A24 when the encrypted code was not registered in it.

DTC B1A25: Key ID Unmatched

CAUTIONWhen the DTC B1A25 is set, be sure to diagnose the CAN bus line. When replacing the ECU, always check that the communication circuit is normal.

WCM sets DTC B1A25 when the received key ID is different from the one registered in it.

  4. STEP 4. Register the key ID and recheck the diagnostic trouble code. Register the key ID of the ignition key (Refer to «ID CODES REGISTRATION PROCEDURE»(ref-592550-S17773111812014011000000) ), and recheck if the DTC is set. Turn the ignition switch from the "LOCK" (OFF) position to the "ON" position. Check if the DTC is set. Q: Is the DTC set? YES: Go to Step 5. NO: The procedure is complete.
  5. STEP 5. Replace the ignition key and recheck the diagnostic trouble code. DTC B1A28: Engine Control Module Authenticate Error

CAUTIONWhen the DTC B1A28 is set, be sure to diagnose the CAN bus line. When replacing the ECU, always check that the communication circuit is normal.

WCM sets DTC B1A28 when the ignition key certification result and the engine control module starting condition do not match.

  3. STEP 3. Using scan tool MB991958, read the diagnostic trouble code. Check if the DTC is set to the WCM. Turn the ignition switch from the "LOCK" (OFF) position to the "ON" position. Check if the DTC is set. Q: Is DTC B1761 or B2206 set other than B1A28? YES: Perform the troubleshooting for each DTC. Refer to «DTC B1761: VIN CODE NOT PROGRAMMED»(ref-592550-S03938756802014011000000) and «DTC B2206: VIN CODE MISMATCH»(ref-592550-S07076304232014011000000) . NO: Go to Step 4.
  4. STEP 4. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code. Check again if the DTC is set to the WCM. Turn the ignition switch from the "LOCK" (OFF) position to the "ON" position. Check if the DTC is set. Q: Is the DTC set? YES: Replace WCM and register the ID codes (Refer to «ID CODES REGISTRATION PROCEDURE»(ref-592550-S17773111812014011000000) ). Then go to Step 5. NO: The diagnosis is complete.
  5. STEP 5. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code. Check again if the DTC is set to the WCM. Turn the ignition switch from the "LOCK" (OFF) position to the "ON" position. Check if the DTC is set. DTC B1A35: Transponder Read Error

CAUTIONWhen DTC B1A35 is set, be sure to diagnose the CAN bus line. When replacing the ECU, always check that the communication circuit is normal.

WCM sets DTC B1A35 when it cannot receive data from the transponder.

Press the unlock button on the transmitter once to unlock only the driver's door. Press the unlock button of the transmitter once again within 2 seconds after the driver's door is unlocked, and check that the front passenger's door, rear doors, and liftgate < LANCER SPORTBACK > are unlocked. If they are not unlocked, carry out troubleshooting. Refer to TROUBLE SYMPTOM CHART .

Note. Press the unlock button on the transmitter once to unlock only the driver's door. When the unlock button of the transmitter is pressed once again more than 2 seconds after the driver's door is unlocked, only the driver's door is unlocked.

Note. The setting of the power door locks with selective unlocking can be changed using the customization function. Confirm which setting is activated before performing these checks. Refer to CUSTOMIZATION FUNCTION .
