Principles of Operation
The driver seat module (DSM) is on the universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter (UART)-based protocol (UBP) communication network, circuit 2077 (PK/LB). The DSM controls the positioning and programming of the driver seat, memory pedals and memory exterior rear view mirrors. The DSM is located under the driver seat. For removal information, refer to DRIVER SEAT MODULE (DSM) . For additional driver seat information, refer to SEATING . For additional information on adjustable pedals, refer to BRAKE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION . For additional information on exterior rear view mirrors, refer to REAR VIEW MIRRORS .
Normal Operation
The driver seat module (DSM) fused power is supplied through the bussed electrical center (BEC) fuses: 10 (30A) circuit 566 (DG), and fuse 51 (10A) circuit 1567 (RD/LB). The DSM ground circuits are circuit 1203 (BK/LB) and 1205 (BK).
The smart junction box (SJB) is connected to the standard corporate protocol (SCP) communication network. The SJB controls both interior and exterior lighting, body functions, and active anti-theft functions. In the absence of the dual automatic temperature control (DATC) module, the SJB receives input from the function selector switch to operate the manual climate control system. If one of the bus wires becomes shorted to ground or voltage, communications can continue at a degraded level. Check circuits 914 (TN/OG), and 915 (PK/LB ) between the SJB C2280b and the DLC C251. Total resistance values must not be more than 5 ohms. If the resistance is more than 5 ohms, there is an open circuit in the SCP network, damage to the DLC C251, or damage to the SJB C2280b. The SJB is a combination of a multifunction control module and an interior power junction box. SJB functions control multiple systems which include
- illuminated entry and interior lamps
- exterior lamps
- perimeter alarm
- power door locks
- auto-locks and smart locks
- remote keyless entry (RKE) keypad
- RKE system
- power windows
- warning chimes
The SJB is equipped on all vehicles and is located behind the steering column cover and reinforcement. For removal information, refer to SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) . For additional information on interior lamps and illuminated entry, refer to INTERIOR LIGHTING . For additional information on exterior lighting, refer to EXTERIOR LIGHTING . For additional information on power door locks, remote keyless entry (RKE) keypad and RKE, refer to HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS . For additional information on power windows, refer to GLASS, FRAMES AND MECHANISMS . For additional information on anti-theft, refer to ANTI-THEFT . For additional information on the manual climate control system, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION . For additional information on the warning chimes, refer to WARNING DEVICES .
The SJB controls a variety of systems.
The smart junction box (SJB) fused voltage is supplied by the bussed electrical center (BEC). Circuits 1052 (TN/BK), 1523 (DG), and 1524 (DB) supply voltage to the SJB. The SJB is grounded through circuit 1205 (BK).
